Telangana's 'Mission Kakatiya' Experiencing Irregularities

The India's 29th new state Telangana's prestigious populist program 'Mission Kakatiya' is now heading towards sheer irregularities. The government is not able to control the encroachment of lakes before it is saved or commissioned as per the 'Mission Kakatiya' program.

If you think lakes in the city would be full to the brim this monsoon after the desiltation work carried out under Mission Kakatiya in Telangana state, think again especially in the case of water bodies under the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) limits.

Take for instance, the fate of the 17acre Shetti Kunta Lake in Ameenpur gram panchayat (survey no. 947) in Patancheru mandal of Medak district in Telangana. Instead of a scenic water body, seen the concrete jungle.

Colombia’s drug cartels—among the largest drug trafficking networks in the world—are trying out new, spectacular ways to bring their goods into India.

Last week, after a tip-off from intelligence sources, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Chennai arrested a Colombian national—Edwin Enrique—for allegedly smuggling 2.35kg of pure cocaine into the country. He had the contraband stuffed inside more than 200 marker pens.

On June 22, Enrique arrived in Chennai on a tourist visa. The Colombian claimed he was a boxing trainer invited by an institute called the All India Boxing Association, which was discovered to be faked.

When people think of Africans in Indian history, Malik Ambar tends to be the first name to come to mind. Brought to Ahmadnagar as a warrior-slave in the 16th century, he rose to be the general of the Deccan sultanate’s army—and eventually its regent.

Yet, Ambar was only the most successful of thousands of Africans brought to India by Arab and Portuguese slavers across the Arabian Sea. Thousands of others came as mercenaries and merchants. Today, the Sidis—as people of African origin living in India for centuries call themselves—are a fast disappearing community. Separated by appearance, if not by culture, they are largely misunderstood.

As she walked out of her college alumni meet brimming with nostalgic thoughts about her amazing years at B-School, she wondered how great it would be to have a simple keepsake to help her connect with this feeling forever. A t-shirt or a hoodie came to her mind. So she went to someone who created such apparel, but the poor quality on offer appalled her. The vendor didn't care about quality since promotional material is usually about meeting a low cost target.

But this lady was made of stronger stuff. She decided that if high quality products for such purposes weren't available, she would become an entrepreneur, build a team and create such apparel. Extensive research and much hard work later, Campus Sutra was born.
