Why 'Bajrangi Bhai' Is Turning To Be Salman's Biggest Hit?

By Nishi Khan in Mumbai
Nothing comes between Salman Khan and record-breaking box-office numbers when it comes to his Eid releases—not even an ongoing court trial.

The Bollywood actor’s latest film, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, has become the fastest Bollywood film to earn Rs100 crore at the box office within India. In the first three days of its release—or the opening weekend—the film collected Rs102.60 crore.

Don't get taken in by the gushing noises around Bajrangi Bhaijaan. This Eid release is not an un-Salman Khan film. Actually, it is everything that a Salman Khan film is expected to be in recent times - a two-and-half-hour-long exercise establishing Khan as the human NREGA, the great saviour of the country's poor, ageing and (of course) women. Thus, you can also call these movies film-shaped definitions of the word 'irony'.

'Jai Ho' To 'Bye Ho': Is Salman Khan Paying For Modi's Lunch & Kite Flying And Akhilesh Yadav's Saifai Show?

By Niloufer Khan | Mumbai

It is evident that Jai Ho film made 'Dabanng Salman Khan' from super star to a second grade hero with a average collections in opening week, and adverse popularity mixed with Salman Khan fans-oriented film script with a label of 'common man', mass music, low story with a step down original telugu film 'Stalin' screenplay and mass masala casting without any reason. These are all happened with Salman Khan for his over-confident political endorsements in Saifai and Gujarat kite flying with NaMo, made anger in a section of minority people and anti-Salman Khan people. Resulting the destruction of image of Salman Khan and his film Jai Ho.

Stating his stand on several allegations, Salman Khan made it clear but not a logical answer to satisfy his fans and well wishers across the globe. He appeared several television shows, exclusive interviews and outstanding public relations activities to console himself and respond with clarifications.

Super 'Salman Khan': Big Hearted ‘Bhai’ Turns Cyber Bully

By Deepanjana Pal (Guest Writer)

You can’t tell where you’ll bump into a Salman Khan fan. Particularly in Mumbai, you could encounter a face glazed with shiny admiration at the mention of ‘Bhai‘ absolutely anywhere. Khan’s enormous popularity comes from the persona that has come together despite his career. It’s a little silly to call Khan an actor because he doesn’t act. Neither can one call him a philanthropist because the NGO he runs, Being Human, is more of a lifestyle brand than a not-for-profit outfit. On Twitter, he describes himself as a humanitarian, which is definitely the most cheered-for aspect of Khan’s persona.

Outside his modest apartment in Bandra, you’ll always find a crowd of men, looking up at his balcony and waiting for a glimpse of him, as though Khan is the pope or Juliet (or both).

After 'Baadshah', Now 'Sultan' Rules The Film Industry: All Hail Salman Khan, The Sultan Of The Box Office

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

The megastar has become a one-man industry with the keys to the Bollywood treasure chest.

Yash Raj Films presents the new Salman Khan movie Sultan, but surely it is the other way round?

Khan has delivered one of the biggest hits of his career with Sultan, a drama by Ali Abbas Zafar about a wrestler who exorcises his demons both in and outside of the ring.

Focus: How 'Being Human' Helped Redefine Salman Khan?

I haven't lived in India for over a decade, but thanks to Facebook, I can always keep track of reactions to the country's latest news stories. Responses to Salman Khan's short-lived prison sentence have flooded my news feed over the past several days.

Normally unfazed by elite privilege, I have been taken aback by the rally for Khan. The response has been over and above what the usual Bollywood fraternity receives -- socialites and ardent fans alike took to Twitter and social media to stand by their man.

Salman Tells Karan Johar He’s A 'Teetotaller And A Virgin'

By Niloufer Khan | Mumbai

Last night, the new season of Koffee With Karan had what was meant to be a blockbuster opening episode. Salman Khan, who rarely appears on interview shows, graced the Koffee With Karan set. If you’ve watched the show, then you know why Khan doesn’t go for interviews.

Twelve hours later, I’m still trying to make sense of what he said. First, let’s focus for a moment on the return of Koffee with Karan, where stars come and go, none of them talk of Michalangelo. The “buzz” this season is that Karan Johar will interview stars in pairs (which he’s done before) and perhaps even in triplet (an ode to season three?). Next week, Kareena Kapoor Khan will be interviewed with her cousin, Ranbir Kapoor.

The 'Salman Khan' You Don't Know?

SALMAN KHAN 'LATEST PHOTOGRAPH
Here's the hidden, side of Salman Khan right here in front of you..Have fun knowing the superstar just the way he is.

Okay, he may have had several high profile relationships. But Salman has a problem uttering the all important three words women want to hear: I love you

He’s never wooed a girl with candle-lit dinners, chocolates or rose bouquets… Well, if the girls swooning at his feet are anything to go by, he must be doing it right.

He tried his hand at modelling before acting. He also worked as an assistant director straight out of college.

He confesses he's a difficult boyfriend. You don’t need to be Albert Einstein to guess that.

Before he became an actor, he had written three scripts. Baaghi was one of them. We want to forget that Chandra Mukhi and Veer were the other two.

SALMAN KHAN DURING AN AD SHOOT
The first time he showed his pictures to a production house, he was shown the door. Stupid people didn’t think he had what it takes to be a star. Guess who’s having the last laugh

Back in the ’90s girls kept an eye out in Bandra for a shirtless hunk who’d drive around casually in his jeep. No points for guessing who he was. Moving around shirtless is his favourite activity.

He’s never worked in a film written by his father Salim Khan.

As a kid, Salman was terribly scared of his father. Young Salman once set newspapers on fire in his balcony. And he was thrashed by his dad.

Now this one’s a shocker! Until recently, Salman had no one handling his finances. Apparently, he’d give his cheques to daddy dearest. Chweet na? We hear he has hired an agency to look after his finances now.

A RARE PHOTO OF SALMAN KHAN IN LEISURE
The reason why Arbaaz Khan, as a kid, didn’t get beaten up by dad was because Sallu bhai always came to his rescue.

According to his dad Salim Khan, ‘uska har problem raat ke 11 bajey se lekar teen baje tak hota hain!’ (All his problems occur between 11pm and 3 am!) Ha!

He was 13, when he started dating! And he hasn’t stopped yet.

His favourite colour is black.

One person who suffers serious nightmares even today is Salman’s English teacher, Mrs Arghya. He troubled her the most in school.

Guess who was the first choice for Baazigar?
Yup, you got that right. But Sallu made it to the top anyway.

Ever since he was embroiled in the black buck case, he hasn’t set foot in Jodhpur. But we’re told he’s allergic to the city. We don’t blame him.

Don't call him Bhai if you dont know him. Be warned before its too late
SALMAN KHAN ON A 'ARABIAN' GET UP!

When he was lodged in Thane jail for the hit and run case, he’d share his home-cooked food with the inmates much to their delight. It’s also said that he donated TV sets to the jail after his release.

An ex-girl friend once pointed out the grey strands in his hair.
Obviously, pointing out that age was fast catching up and that he was on his way out. Salman simply smiled.

How does he bounce back from depression? He just looks around at the lesser fortunate people. And then sends up a prayer of gratitude.

Salman Khan is still in touch with his ex-Somy Ali. Reportedly, He’s even bought her a flat in Dubai.

He never reads the reviews of his movies.

He finds it absurd that box-office pundits take his work seriously when he’s done it so casually! Well…

He believes people can’t stand him for more than five minutes. Now, now. Don’t the box-office collections say something else?

Salman can be mercurial. What he likes today can easily be on his hate list, two months from now.

THIS IS 'REAL' SALMAN KHAN WITHOUT ANY MAKEUP OR WIGG
Remember Veer? He had big plans to direct it. Better sense prevailed.

Believe it or faint, Ek Tha Tiger was Salman’s first ever Yash Raj solo film.

Don’t people usually try out clothes before buying them? Well Salman Khan doesn’t see the need for it.

He feels awkward working with Kareena. After all he’s seen this Kapoor as a six-year old kid roaming on his sets in frocks.

Once he put a ‘Do not disturb’ board on director Shirish Kunder’s van while they were shooting for Jaan-E-Mann. Naturally, no one disturbed the director. When Shirish turned up late on the set, Salman threw a fit. Ofcourse, it was in mock anger.

He can go from a 32” waist to a 30” in two flat days. Tell us the secret, Salman.

When it comes to clothes he’s finicky about the fit. He’d rather wear a cheap shirt if it fits well than ill-fitting designer wear.

Once he got to know that 35 women workers on his set wanted sarees. He promptly sent his Man Friday to buy them.

Technology doesn’t excite him. He blames Arbaaz for introducing him to Twitter.

When he went bald for Tere Naam, he loved his look so much that he made his make-up man and spot boy shave their heads too. Tee hee!

He has a fetish for sunglasses.  His collection is something he takes immense pride in.
SALMAN KHAN IN A SERIOUS MOOD DURING A SHOOT
He endured trigeminal neuralgia (TN) for seven years. He couldn’t talk or act properly. This facial nerve disorder sends a shock-like pain to the forehead, cheek and jaw and is said to trigger the maximum suicides.

While suffering TN, it would take him an hour and half to finish an omelette. He could eat only after 2-3 drinks. Alcohol numbed his senses.

He thinks a biography on his life is pointless. He won’t speak the truth and no one’s interested in the lies. True that!

Film Review: ‘Sultan’ Is A Biopic Of Salman Khan, The Man Conquered All Odds

By RAMAN KAPOOR | INNLIVE

Director Ali Abbas Zafar’s sports drama is a thinly veiled study of the dark star’s triumph over his off-screen troubles.

Mixed martial arts league promoter Akash (Amit Sadh) needs a star fighter, preferably an Indian, to boost the prospects of his upcoming tournament. His father advises him to go see what Sultan Ali Khan is upto these days.

From CJ Rashmi Kalia in Chandigarh

'SUPERSTAR' SALMAN KHAN, THE BIGGEST 'HIT MACHINE'

By M H Ahssan / Mumbai

He has several films in his kitty that have joined the Rs.100-crore club and thanks to them, Salman Khan's films are perceived as high-yielding projects. But his feet are on the ground and he knows how to handle success, the star says.

Saat Rasta, known earlier as the Jacob Circle, is the vortex that joins five different areas of Mumbai. On that junction lies New Shirin Talkies, a non-descript theatre. Normally, the traffic on Saat Rasta roundabout is messy, but a week before Eid in 2010, at least three roads leading up to it were completely blocked.

When one got close to the roundabout, nothing appeared out of the ordinary. Except that Salman Khan was staring out of a large poster of Wanted and there were people milling about the entrance creating the traffic bottleneck. Wanted was a two-year-old film. Why the queues?

Superstar Salman Khan - The 'Last Sultan' Of India

By NISHI KHAN | INNLIVE

The man, the mind and the mayhem. Up close with Hindi cinema’s biggest star ever made.

Outside a large vanity van that casts a soft light upon its owner whenever it is opened, like a refrigerator in a dark room, Salman Khan sits under a temporary structure made of poles and tarpaulin sheets, across a table with several white plastic chairs. He sits at a slight elevation—two chairs stacked one atop the other—as if to distinguish his position from those who come to occupy the other chairs.

Salman Khan Getting Back To Flex His 'Box-Office Muscles'

Salman Khan isn’t going anywhere—at least for the time being. Bombay high court suspended the convicted Bollywood superstar’s jail sentence, pending his appeal. Khan’s lawyers argued that the lower court had not considered all the evidence at hand during the trial.

Two days ago, the 49-year-old actor was sentenced by a lower court to a five-year-long jail term in a 2002 hit-and-run case, which left one homeless person dead and four others injured. He was charged for culpable homicide.

Focus: Would 'Salman Khan' Still Sell Without Controversy

The star’s run-ins with the law have also been more than that of your average Bollywood guy.

Imagine, for a moment, Salman Khan were to change identities with (insert any uncontroversial, diplomatic-to-the-hilt Bollywood actor)... Sounds sort of unreal, no?

In an interview in 2012, Salman Khan was asked how he managed to not react to the same questions that he is asked in every single media interaction.

Being ‘Salman': Not Easy To Know, Difficult To Understand

Salman Khan is not an easy man to know and he’s even more difficult to understand. All guide books on how to handle a Superstar fail when you are interacting with him.

“Kya hua? Nobody in the industry is taking a stand for Shah Rukh? Chal, I’ll take a stand for him.” In a midnight phone call, this is what Salman Khan said to me when he decided to publically stand up for fellow actor Shah Rukh Khan, who was facing the wrath of the Shiv Sena during the release of ‘My Name Is Khan’ in February 2010.

INNLIVE contacted a host of Bollywood personalities on the issue but nobody was willing to come on record except Salman Khan.
