By RUMAISA KHAN | INNLIVE

Of the many Parsis that once resided in the city, only two to four families remain.

In the heart of the city, surrounded by beautiful mountains, Quetta’s Parsi Colony is picture-perfect. The lush green trees sway in the breeze. There is a rare feeling of trust: instead of the common elevated walls demarcating boundaries of houses, there are flimsy grills with open, inviting doors.

Is This The BJP-RSS Idea Of Inculcating Education And Protecting Children?'

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

Congress says restore girls to parents, CPI(M)’s Brinda Karat says arrest those involved in trafficking racket.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s promise of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ took a beating today in the light of the Outlook cover story on RSS affiliated organisations trafficking tribal girls from Assam under the garb of educating them.

The Congress came down heavily on the Modi government today. It questioned the government, the BJP and the Sangh Parivar on whether trafficking children in the age group of three to eleven from five border districts of Assam, is the Modi government’s fulfillment of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’.

These are termed by many anthropologists as the Austro-Asiatic-speaking Australoid people. The Central Indian Adivasis belong to this grouping.

By NEWS KING | INNLIVE

The tea industry and the government joined hands but failed to stem the deaths in the predominantly tribal community.

Babita Jayram has beaten the odds. The 21-year-old sits in one corner of the hospital bed, brushing her hair with the slow, steady strokes of a purple comb. By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

A survey of Muslim institutes of higher learning finds them lagging behind the rest of world when it comes to providing quality science and tech education.

It is a well-known fact that 1.6 billion Muslims contribute a disproportionately smaller share to the world’s knowledge. This global community – forming the majority population of 57 countries and spanning virtually every single country of the world – has had only three Nobel laureates in science in the history of this prestigious prize.

How To Deal With Zakir Naik? Not By Force, But With Counter-Narrative

By NEWS KING | INNLIVE

Can a phenomenon be eliminated by force?

No. That is what the experts feel about televangelist preacher Zakir Naik, who has virtually achieved a phenomenal status. According to them, by controlling law and order and using the state machinery, the popularity gained by Naik can't be erased.

As per the confession of one of the militants involved in the Dhaka terror attack, the Mumbai-based Muslim preacher Naik, through his narratives on Islam, motivated him into terrorism.

Beware Of Your Mothers, Daughters Of The East!

By RUMAISA KHAN | INNLIVE

As honour killings in Pakistan are on the rise and rulings of religious bodies further disparage the status of women, the neighbouring is in dire need of a positive social change.

Can a mother as a normal human being kill her own teenage daughter on any pretext? Can she be so cruel and heartless as to burn any of her progeny to death?

IT Graduates Aplenty In Hyderabad, But Where Are The 'Skilled'?

By NEWSCOP | INNLIVE

A steady 6% to 9% year-on-year increase in workforce notwithstanding, Hyderabad's IT sector is faced with a severe crunch - that of skilled resources.

The Great Fall & Demotion: Two “Eventful” Years On, India’s Education Minister Shunted From Textbooks To Textiles

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

Smriti Irani, India’s education minister, has been shunted from textbooks to textiles—her new ministry. The move was part of a cabinet reshuffle announced late on Tuesday (July 5) by prime minister Narendra Modi’s government. Environment minister Prakash Javadekar will replace Irani.

The move was so unexpected that The Times of India newspaper called it a “shocker.” The fact that Modi had earlier this week hinted that there would be no reshuffle but just an expansion only added to the intrigue.

Cabinet Reshuffle: What To Make Of PM Modi's Minimum Govt Promise?

By NEWS KING | INNLIVE

Minimum government this certainly is not. Team Modi now comprises of 78 ministers - same as Manmohan Singh's Council of Ministers.

Modi started his prime ministerial stint in 2014 with only 45 ministers, and this was widely flaunted as his commitment to minimum government. At that time, this writer had pointed out that Modi's was a lean government, not a minimum government. But now it is not even a lean government. Seventy-nine is just a smidgeon short of the 81-member cap that the ninety-first amendment of the Constitution sets (15 percent of the strength of the lower house).

Indian Muslims Battle Hostile Attitudes As 'Islamic State' Seeks To Spread Tentacles

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

Midnight knocks are not alien to 35-year-old Mohammed Maqueemuddin Yasir. Having spent over four years in Indore jail till September 2012, on charges of having helped a SIMI leader from Karnataka, acquittal from the lower court has not meant freedom from the suspicious gaze of the security agencies.

Being the son of Maulana Naseeruddin, a feisty cleric in Hyderabad, means that in the police book, Yasir is a radicalised youth, with many shades of grey, if not black. In his sermons, the 66-year-old Maulana exhorts the Muslims to adopt an eye for an eye approach against aggressive Hindutva. He spent five years between 2004 and 2009 in Sabarmati jail in Gujarat, accused of plotting to kill Haren Pandya and Narendra Modi.
