Welcome Ramadhan: Entering The Gate Of Rayyan

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

We are getting ready to embrace another month of Ramadan very soon insha’Allah. Innumerable articles, lectures and reminders are getting circulated among Muslim Ummah delivering tips on preparation for the upcoming blessed month.

However, we still have a bunch of people amongst us who are unable to understand the importance of action plan for Ramadan. Even though we know all about the sacredness of the month of Ramadan and fasting, the question “Why should we prepare ourselves for Ramadan?” still remains unanswered in most of the cases.

KCR Gets 'New Avatar' As Telangana Celebrates 2 Years

By SHEENA SHAFIA | INNLIVE

The second anniversary of the Telangana state formation day saw chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao take on a new avatar, literally. In a heady mix of adulation and sycophancy, overzealous KCR supporters went overboard on Thursday deifying the TRS stalwart in flexis and posters that sprouted up across several parts of the city

In one such example, a poster at Sultan Bazar projected the leader as Lord Rama. Dressed in a godly attire, and with a bow and arrow, KCR is described as 'Telangana Bhageeratha' and 'Telangana Gandhi'. The reference to Bhageeratha is a well thought one; King Bhageeratha finds mention in the Ramayana as the one who brought down the Ganges from heaven, a result of his penance. The chief minister also himself named the Rs 35,000 crore drinking water project 'Mission Bhageeratha', an attempt to sanctify his grandiose plans.

Remembering History: Why India must end its official amnesia about the horrors of Partition?

By LIKHAVEER | INNLIVE

By not teaching our children that we slaughtered our own we have ensured that the practice of organised mass slaughter will continue.

"Now before our eyes lies dried tracks of blood, cut up human parts. Charred faces, mangled necks, terrified people, looted houses, burned fields, mountains of rubble, and over flowing hospitals. We are free. Hindustan is free. Pakistan is free." - Hamid Jalal from Ayesha Jalal’s The Pity of Partition.

We will never know how many people died during Partition, how many were raped and how many were displaced. On August 14 and 15, 1947, while many Indians and Pakistanis rejoiced, others stumbled into a darkness that was characterised by large-scale killing, looting and systematic degradation, sometimes with the complicity of authorities, rulers of princely states and religious leaders.

Wrinkled Lives: The Hope And Fury Deep Inside The Poor, Obedient Indian Girl

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

Saturday night, suburban Gurgaon. The sky turns from blue to black, the burnt-toast smell of fireworks blows across the ravine, and tall, broad-shouldered Varsha hauls a hot-coal iron over the shimmering finery of others.

Quietly, quickly, she presses the wrinkles out of a brushed pink chiffon salwar-kameez, another the colour of nimboo-pani, followed by three button-down white dress shirts. Her cellphone trills. “Yes, didi. It’s almost ready. Send your driver in ten minutes.”

What Yoga Guru Ramdev Can Teach The IIM Grads At Unilever And Nestle?

By Dr. SHELLY AHMED | INNLIVE

The news must have come through to you too: Patanjali reported revenues of around Rs5,000 crore ($745 million) for the last financial year — and in doing so went past Colgate in India. Even more interesting is that Colgate is almost eight decades old in India while Baba Ramdev’s brand is barely eight years old.

The saffron-clad Baba’s forecast was quite eye-catching too — he thinks the brand will double revenues to Rs10,000 crores ($1.5 billion) in India by 2017 — which would effectively take them past two other-decades old companies ,  Nestle and Procter & Gamble (P&G)  and leave Patanjali second only to Unilever in India, all in just about 10 years.

How Much Money Is ISIS Actually Making From Looted Art?

By RIAZ SALEEM | INNLIVE

A team at the University of Chicago has created a revenue estimate tool that will give us a better idea of what the underground trade is worth.

For excavators – archaeologists, but also looters like the Islamic State, or ISIS – the opportunity for discovery in modern Iraq and Syria is dazzling.

The countries lie within the Fertile Crescent, a broad swath of land stretching from the eastern Mediterranean to the Zagros Mountains and the Persian Gulf that gave rise to some of the earliest complex societies.

New Education Policy: What Does Government Have To Hide?

By LIKHAVEER | INNLIVE

A committee tasked with making the draft policy submitted a 250-page document to the HRD ministry on May 27, but the ministry has refused to make it public.

On May 16, Minister for Human Resource Development Smriti Irani said in an interview to the state-run All India Radio that the government expected to receive a draft New Education Policy in 15 to 20 days. At the time of this writing, the ministry has said that it does not have a draft education policy.
