AP Stares At President's Rule, Govt Formation Unlikely

By Dhanush Rao | INNLIVE

Though after many twists and turns, India is getting ready for its 29th state, Telangana but Andhra Pradesh is headed towards President's Rule. According to sources, the Ministry of Home Affairs has got the Governor's report which states that government formation by any political party is not possible at this stage in the state. The decision on imposing President's rule is awaited.

This comes after Kiran Kumar Reddy resigned as the the chief minister of the state to mark his protest against the division of Andhra Pradesh. The Rajya Sabha had passed the controversial Telangana Bill amid high drama. While the Seemandhra MPs continued their opposition, the Bill was torn up by some TMC members.
The chants by the MPs drowned out Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's statement in the House as he promised a special package for Seemandhra for five years. The CPI(M) too opposed the Bill by staging a walkout over its passage.

Along with scenes of chaos, celebrations also erupted in Delhi as well as across the Telangana region. "It is an achievement for us. We have been fighting for the past 60 years. I am proud to say that I am a part of Telangana," said a Telangana supporter.

"Remember one thing, it's the sacrifice of a huge number of people," another supporter said.

Even as the Bill has been passed, Hyderabad has been the big bone of contention. Political leaders are now trying to reach out with Telangana leader KT Rama Rao telling former MP of Seemandhra L Rajagopal that people from Seemandhra are more than welcome in Hyderabad.

"People who may come all the way to Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema, who made Hyderabad their home, they are going to be secure," said KT Rama Rao.

L Rajagopal has also called for peace and harmony. "Now it is time to ensure that peace and harmony of the Telugu people sustains and prevails," Rajagopal said.
