Bihar Panchayati Raj Minister Bhim Singh has alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party prime ministerial candidate Narnedra Modi had hired a professional "beautician" for himself. The minister claimed the "beautician" charges the Gujarat chief minister a huge amount of Rs.1 lakh every day.
While Modi's looks have been in news even earlier, Singh has had his own share of newsmaking.
In December last year, film actress Chitrangada Singh said she thought the Gujarat chief minister could try abandoning his beard in favour of a clean-shaven look. "I think Modi can try a clean-shaven look. I think you (men) all look good. It might just, I don't know, look better," the Bollywood actress had said on the sidelines of promotional event organised by Gillette.
That's about Modi and his looks.
In August last year, Bhim Singh had hit the hornets' nest on the killing of five Indian soldiers on Line of Control when he said that policemen and soldiers are recruited to make sacrifices for the nation. He later apologised after his comments created a furore and he was panned by all sections of the society.
To questions by journalists about the absence of JD(U) ministers to receive the bodies of the four jawans (who belonged to Bihar) flown in by special Air Force plane at the Jai Prakash Narayan airport, Singh had said "People join army or police for shahadat (martyrdom)." He then turned to the media, saying, "You had gone to the airport as part of your duty for which you are paid."
According to reports, an angry Singh even told a private TV channel reporter: "Had your father gone to the airport to receive the bodies? ... You had gone there as part of your duty for which you are paid."
When it became clear even after his apology that the controversy was far from dying down, an exasperated Singh said, "I am sorry not once but 100 times for the comments."
Singh's relationship with BJP has been bitter. In October last year, Singh while he was addressing a rally in Gopalganj called BJP as 'venomous snake'.
Guess it was his turn to bite back now.
