India's Youngest Divorcee, Who Married At 4 Divorced At 8

In a cruel joke played upon her by fate, a mere eight-year-old girl got divorced after being amrried for just over four years. Married away when she was only four, the girl today is the youngest divorcee the world has ever seen. This was happened in a village of Uttar Pradesh.
According to information, a resident of Nakhi village, Fatima got married four years ago to 14-year-old Bakridi. But four years later, Fatima's father Mangre realized that he has committed a crime by marrying his underage daughter.

He decided against continuing the marriage when Fatima's in-laws came to take her to their home. He asked Bakridi to dovorce Fatima. But Bakridi refused to do so.

As a result, Mangre knocked the door of court and filed a divorce petition on the behalf of his daughter. He also returned all the gifts he had received from Bakridi's family.

The dispute was settled after the National Women Commission stepped in. 

According to UNICEF records, 32.9 percent girls in Uttar Pradesh and 22.1 percent in the country are forced into child marriage.

Only 19 percent females of Shraswati area are educated and child marriage is a very common in the area.
