Inside BJP: Why BJP Putting Up With Navjot Singh Sidhu's Defiance Of The Party Line?

By NEWS KING | INNLIVE

Is it the fear of the AAP – or just not having any other recognisable face in Punjab?

Navjot Singh Sidhu has an uncanny ability to remain in the news. The dashing batsman, who made a name for himself as an Indian cricket opener, and then a motormouth commentator with his rat-a-tat soundbytes, followed by a career as a Bharatiya Janata Party member of Parliament, has of late more been known for his role on a popular television comedy show.

On The Actor's Trail: Mom-To-Be Kareena Kapoor Khan Has Revived The Old Debate About Married Heroines Witb A Twist

By NISHI KHAN | INNLIVE

We might be having a few wrong expectations after the announcement of the star’s pregnancy.

In 2012, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali made a questionable statement in the midst of pre-production for Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela about replacing Kareena Kapoor with Deepika Padukone. “A married woman can never be my Juliet,” he had said at that time, explaining why Kapoor, who had announced her wedding to Saif Ali Khan, would be miscast as William Shakespeare’s tragic heroine.

Modi's Cabinet Reshuffle: With 'Big Four' Immune, Will The Exercise Be Purely Cosmetic?

By NEWSCOP | INNLIVE

Suspense is thick in the air in the power corridors of New Delhi. Will the Cabinet reshuffle take place in the next 24-100 hours? What will be its magnitude?

Will it be a major one, based on mid-term performance review, and interlink the reshuffle and organisational restructuring in the BJP? Or will it be only cosmetic, filling out some vacancies here and there and making some basic changes?

As Polls Approach, Ugly Politics Plays Out In Punjab’s Inly Muslim-Majority Town

By LIKHAVEER | INNLIVE

Last week, torn pages of the Quran were found at Malerkotla, which has had a long tradition of keeping the peace.

As Punjab gears up for Assembly elections next year, the politics of polarisation seems to have picked up pace.

Last Friday, pages of the Quran, the Muslim holy book, were found scattered near a cemetery in Malerkotla in Ludhiana. Violence followed. A few vehicles were set on fire by a group that was upset by having been denied a meeting with the local MLA.

India Is Slowly Cleaving Into Two Countries – A Richer, Older South And A Poorer, Younger North

By NEWSCOP | INNLIVE

Support to the elderly is fraying in India. But no one appears prepared for this – not families, not companies, not the government.

At traffic intersections, drivers in Delhi tune out the brown-haired, snot-nosed waifs who tap and scratch insistently at their car windows. Sometimes, the children are joined by equally ragged parents, mostly in their 20s, trying to sell cheap Chinese-made junk – from plastic flowers to cellphone and steering-wheel covers. The defining feature of destitution in North India appears to be youth.

Modiji: What Happened To Your Promise Of 'Minimum Government, Maximum Governance'?

By LIKHAVEER | INNLIVE

From increased taxes to controlling what Indians will eat, watch or speak, the government seems to be getting more intrusive.

Small government might seem like a new idea but it’s really the oldest form of government. Throughout history, states were tiny, consisting of little more than an army (often temporary) and a paper-thin bureaucracy extending just a bit beyond a royal court. Then in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, notions of a welfare state started to take root. Pushed in part by the appeal of socialism, the United Kingdom introduced wide-ranging healthcare and Germany old-age pensions.

The Minimum Leader: The Unravelling Of Arvind Kejriwal

By NEWSCOP | INNLIVE

Two years on, it is becoming apparent that Arvind Kejriwal is no breakaway from the typical mould of the politician as deception artist.

Arvind Kejriwal’s resume could be kept concise and hilarious: Underdog Extraordinaire. Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi, is a politician with an obvious appetite for theatrics, and he deserves admiration for his knack for blurring the line between the reality of his problems with the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre and the tricks of his own house of mirrors in the capital that cast him as a superhero who champions the rights of the common man. What has helped so far, in no small measure, is his projection of himself as the ultimate victim-hero.

How Did Sikh Heritage Become Hostage To Hostilities Between India And Pakistan?

By RUMAISA KHAN | INNLIVE

The grievances that gave birth to the Khalistan movement are alive. They find a platform in gurdwaras across the border.

Just outside the main complex of the shrine where the samadhi and the grave of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, are believed to be located is the sacred well from where Guru Nanak used to draw water for his fields. After a long pilgrimage of almost three decades, the guru finally decided to settle at this spot, now called Kartarpur Sahib, near the city of Narowal in present-day Pakistan.

'Udta Punjab' Fiasco: The Drug Nenace Is For Real; Censoring Won't Help

By NEWSCOP | INNLIVE

The controversy surrounding Bollywood flickUdta Punjab rages on, as the 89 cuts ordered by the censor board are being widely lampooned.

The Pahlaj Nihalani-led censor board has asked the filmmakers to delete are any reference to Punjab or any place in the state. The cuts recommended include those that can baffle filmmakers and movie buffs alike: for instance, deleting all close-up shots of people injecting drugs. If this is done, the very theme of the film could fizzle out.

Defeating’ India And ‘Controlling’ Afghanistan Have Been The Goals Of Pakistan’s Jihad Industry

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

The education ministry indoctrinated young minds and trained a crop of Jihadis through a special madrassa network.

…In the past few years, Pakistan has witnessed an exceptionally high level of tolerance for extremism among the middle class, which staffs Urdu media and provides intellectual direction to public opinion. Urdu newspapers glorify militant groups as the agents of local and global “Jihad” and are steeped in the Jihadist discourse that emanated from Pakistan’s concerted alliance with the USA in the 1980s to nurture the mujahideen and later efforts to seek “strategic depth” in Afghanistan and “fix” India via proactive Jihadism.

Little has changed in the past three decades except the fact that a grander version of Urdu press now exists in the shape of electronic media. The latter, barring few exceptions, has also overtly and covertly supported soft Islamism as a natural policy option for an Islamic Republic endowed with nuclear weapons.

Fake Federalism: How 'National Parties' Turned The Concept Of 'Rajya' In Rajya Sabha Into A Farce?

By NEWSCOP | INNLIVE

The upper House of Parliament, literally a Council of States, was meant to be a federal chamber to look out for the interests of the states.

The continued abuse of the idea of the Rajya Sabha – or the Council of States – by the so-called national parties continues with the upcoming round of Rajya Sabha elections.

Remembering History: Why India must end its official amnesia about the horrors of Partition?

By LIKHAVEER | INNLIVE

By not teaching our children that we slaughtered our own we have ensured that the practice of organised mass slaughter will continue.

"Now before our eyes lies dried tracks of blood, cut up human parts. Charred faces, mangled necks, terrified people, looted houses, burned fields, mountains of rubble, and over flowing hospitals. We are free. Hindustan is free. Pakistan is free." - Hamid Jalal from Ayesha Jalal’s The Pity of Partition.

We will never know how many people died during Partition, how many were raped and how many were displaced. On August 14 and 15, 1947, while many Indians and Pakistanis rejoiced, others stumbled into a darkness that was characterised by large-scale killing, looting and systematic degradation, sometimes with the complicity of authorities, rulers of princely states and religious leaders.
