The 'International #LeftHandersDay': 'Let's Make The Way For Southpaws'!

BY M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

What is common between Amitabh Bachchan, Hugh Jackman, Kapil Sharma and Sunny Leone? Of course they are actors, popular, affluent and have a tremendous fan following. But the fact that they are left-handy is what binds these Bollywood and Hollywood hearththrobs in the most unique way.

Today, August 13 is celebrated as International #LeftHandersDay and it is interesting to create a long list of names of left-handed celebs, who have been ruling both the western as well as Indian entertainment world.
“Left-handed people are more artistic,” says Dr Rajeev Mehta, consultant psychiatrist. He adds, “It isn’t just people from the cinema world who are left-handed. Even cricketers such as Yuvraj Singh and Sourav Gangly are left handed.” Infact, it is widely accepted that left-handed people are good at sports.
What is lesser known is that Bollywood celebs get together, every year, to celebrate this day. “We have received information that Karan Johar throws a small party every August 13, for his industry friends who are lefties,” says Sandeip Bishnoi, founder, Indian Left Hander Club. The club has 10 lakh members including some celebs. Bishnoi adds, “We have given honorary membership and the names of our club members include TV actors Mona Singh, Shweta Salve and actor-singer Aditya Narayan. Even sportspersons Mary Kom, Zaheer Khan and Suresh Raina are members.”
Bishnoi informs that his club members are planning a gather in Goa to create a world record for biggest chocolate party of left handers. He says, “We are expecting actor Rahul Bose to join us too.”
Recently actor-comedian Kapil Sharma mentioned on his show that left-handed people shouldn’t be treated as inferior. The concern is shared by other too. Dr Mehta says, “Left handers are proven to be better people in the long run. They shouldn’t be forced to become right handed.”
Trivia about lefties:
1. Of the seven most recent US Presidents, four have been left-handed.
2. They adjust to seeing underwater quicker than right-handed people.
3. Lefties are better at multi-tasking, thinking and 3D perception.
4. Reportedly left-handed college graduates go on to become 26% richer than right handed graduates.
5. Scientifically, a left-handy is twice as likely to be male.
