Special Report: Did Mumbai Attacks Mastermind, Pak Terrorist Hafiz Saeed Plan 'Gurdaspur Terror Attack'?

After establishing the role of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the July 27 Gurdaspur terror attack, Indian intelligence agencies are trying to pinpoint the involvement of Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief and 26/11 Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed.

The three terrorists killed in Dinanagar were speaking Punjabi when slain senior Punjab cop Baljit Singh had challenged them to come out in the open before they killed him.

Sources said most terrorists working for LeT belong to the Punjab province of Pakistan, and not only speak Punjabi but also have a similar lifestyle to that seen in India’s Punjab.

One of the slain terrorists had abused SP (Detective) late Singh in Punjabi when he had challenged them - “Peo da puttar hai to samne aa” (If you are your father’s son come before me).

The terrorist did not accept the challenge, but hit Singh in the head. He was not wearing a helmet.

It has already been established that JuD is a cover of LeT, established by Hafiz Saeed. Interestingly, the headquarters of both the militant organisations are located in Muridke town, about an hour’s drive from Lahore where Saeed lives.

Saeed runs his ‘terror school’ in the name of social service from Muridke. He also runs a charitable organisation — called Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF) — from the same place. He founded JuD and FIF after the parent organisation LeT was banned by Pakistan following pressure from the US.

Sources said Saeed, who earlier talked about jihad in Kashmir, has also included Khalistan in his agenda - which has been jointly propelled by the ISI, LeT and Sikh terrorist groups.

His close relative and LeT operations commander Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, who had planned the Mumbai attacks, also cannot be ignored as both play a central role in planning and executing terror acts against India.

When contacted, IGP Border Ishwar Chander refused to comment on the role of Saeed but said that all aspects and evidence that have been collected so far will be thoroughly probed and analysed.

“The investigations are preliminary and we cannot comment on his (Saeed’s) role at this stage. We have recovered more evidence, which have been sent for analysis to Delhi. We are at a very early stage of investigation. We cannot comment on any link. We will share the information as and when the investigations are over,” Chander said.

Sources said the focus of Indian intelligence agencies at this stage is to collect more and more proof so that the role of Pakistan in sheltering the terror outfits is proved. Two facts which have already established that the terrorists had come from Pakistan are the GPS devices and a glove used by one of them that had a Made-In-Pakistan tag.

“We have also recovered a glove from a hand of a terrorist which has Made-in-Pakistan tag. The glove is used by the Army to fire for longer duration, as it can bear shocks and is fire proof,” Chander said.

Meanwhile, the Gurdaspur police with the help of Indian Army on Sunday diffused the powerful Disposable Rocket Launcher (DLR) that was recovered from the terror attack spot.

“This is a very deadly weapon and can pierce into an army tank, vehicle or building. It was disposed off at Makoda Pattan near Ravi river with the help of the Army. Had the terrorists been able to use it, there would have been heavy casualties in Gurdaspur. They had planned to use this weapon to escape after the attack,” Chander said.
