All that glitters is not gold, it's diamond too. Day three at the India International Jewellery Week ( IIJW) hosted at Mumbai's Grand Hyatt was a perfect example of that. The event, which culminates on Thursday, saw Bollywood stars adding extra shine to the exquisite jewellery pieces, especially gold.
Collections spanned both young and classy designs as well as traditional classics. Pallavi Foley presented a smart and imaginative range of abstract pendants and pretty necklaces, inspired by jasmine blossom, a flower that has conventionally been synonymous with beauty.
Crafted in 18k gold, diamonds, silver and fresh water pearls, the show closed with actor Alia Bhatt, who looked elegant in a chic LBD.
Golecha Jewels of Umrao Jaan and Luck by Chance fame made an impact with their opulent yet tasteful jewellery. Titled " Royal Indian Brides", the collection featured exquisite rose cut and uncut diamonds pearls, rubies and emeralds. Styled in rich Indian wear by Bollywood designer Vikram Phadnis, the cherry on the icing were showstoppers couple actor Shabana Azmi and renowned script writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar.
Yummy mummy Sushmita Sen looked resplendent in an embroidered zardozi bridal lehenga choli as she walked the ramp for Charu Jewels created by Nikhil Desai. The jewellery she carried comprised of round and uncut diamonds necklace bibs and other ornaments in precious stones.
The Dipti and Amisha brand offered gold, diamonds and jadau ornaments inspired by royal Victorian splendour with an Indian twist. Actor Aditi Rao Hydari sashayed down the ramp for the designer duo.
Most notable was the blitz of upcoming designers who showcased their collections.
Karishma Kapoor looked breathlessly beautiful as she walked the ramp in a black dress, loaded with diamond jewellery.
The opening show was reserved for nine creators from the National Institute of Design presented by Sun Jewels.
