KARNATAKA ELECTION RESULTS 2013: INN LIVE

Our reporters and Citizen Journalists are at the counting centers and party offices across the State of Karnataka. INN will bring you live updates of this momentous election. Will the political instability that damaged the State over the last five years continue? Or, will people deliver a decisive verdict? 

A party should get a simple majority of 113 seats in the 224-member Assembly to form the government. But election was not held in Periyapatna due to the death of a candidate. So, the current battle is only for 223 seats. 

3.00pm: Congress crosses magic figure 113; to form government on own.

2:20 pm: Top losers - K S Eshwarappa, G Parameshwar, Anita Kumaraswamy, C M Ibrahim, Tejaswini Gowda, Somanna, B K Chandrashekar, Bachche Gowda, PGR Scindia. Losers can go on a vacation. They can afford it.
1:40 pm: Anti-incumbency: 75 to 80 sitting MLAs may lose. 15 to 21 ministers may bite the dust.

1:15: Record victory - Prakash Hukkeri of Congress wins Chikkodi by 76,000 votes.

1:05 pm: Madhu Bangarappa defeats elder brother Kumar Bangarappa in Soraba. Another twist in Bangarappa family feud.

1.00 pm: Malavalli - Congress' Narendra Swamy wins after recount


12:40 pm: Anti-incumbency: 75 to 80 sitting MLAs may lose. 15 to 21 ministers may bite the dust.

1:15 pm: Record victory - Prakash Hukkeri of Congress wins Chikkodi by 76,000 votes.


1:05 pm: Madhu Bangarappa defeats elder brother Kumar Bangarappa in Soraba. Another twist in Bangarappa family feud.


1.00 pm: Malavalli - Congress' Narendra Swamy wins after recount


12:40 pm: Deputy Chief Minister R Ashok wins in Padmanabhanagar.


12:30 pm: The man who spoilt BJP's party, wins in his bastion. Yeddy wins Shikaripura by 20,000+ votes. But KJP struggling to cross double figures. 


12:17 pm: The games begin. Kharge says he is in CM race, of course, if the High Command is willing. JD(S) will sit in opposition, says Deve Gowda.


12:10 pm: Hatrick hero HDK wins Ramanagara again. Third time in a row.


12:05 pm: Ministers Somanna and Bachche Gowda lose. Losers of all parties cheer up. You have nothing more to lose. Enjoy your vacation. You can afford it.


11.55 am: Siddu wins  massive. By 18,500 votes. 


11:36 am: Losers, Losers Losers: C M Udasi (Hanagal), S A Ramdas (Krishnaraja, Mysore), Pooja Gandhi (Raichur City). 


11:32 am:  DiKeShi the entrepreneur-Congressman wins Kanakapura. Time ripe for another round of entrepreneurship.


11:27: Breaking news - Suresh Kumar wins Rajaji Nagar. Ms Shoba Karandlaje loses.


11:22 am: Chief Minister Shettar may lose his post. But will retain his seat. He wins Dharwad central. DiKeShi the entrepreneur-Congressman wins Kanakapura.


11:11 am: Muniratna Naidu, the tainted corporator wins Rajarajeshwari Nagar. He built the Veterinary College wall that collapsed, killing 17-year-old Sanjana. An internal inquiry by BBMP established that Naidu was guilty of constructing a substandard structure. http://bit.ly/b99Xzq


10: 54 am: Renukacharya of KJP loses in Honnali to Vasu of Congress. Voters reject an obnoxious brand of politics. HD Revanna of JD(S) wins in Holenarasipura. His reign in Hassan will continue.


10: 44 am: JD (S) candidate Shankarlinge Gowda loses to Vasu of Congress in Chamaraja constituency in Mysore. Alas, he may never become a minister.  


10: 35 am: Zameer Ahmed of JD(S) wins from Chamrajpet.


10: 30: am: Congress's Priya Krishna wins in Govindaraj Nagar. YSV Datta of JD(S) wins in Kadur.

9:45 am: At the end of the third round Kumaraswamy is ahead of his rivals in Ramanagara with 4338 votes. 


9:43 am: Congress leader Siddaramaiah lead in Varuna by 2,600 votes. Pramod Madhwaraj of Congress in Udupi lead by 18, 000 votes. 

9: 16 am: Congress candidate Ramalinga Reddy lead by 2,500 votes in BTM Layout constituency. UT Khader of Congress lead by 13,000 votes in Mangalore. 


9:15 am: Bangalore: Suresh Kumar, Shobha Karandlaje trailing in Rajaji Nagar. Ashoka ahead in Padmanabha Nagar.


9: 08 am: Kumaraswamy lead by 2965 votes in Ramanagara.

9:00 am: At the end of the first round KJP Rudresh Gowda is at second position with 3,906 votes in Shimoga. 


8:58 am:  JD(S) chief Kumaraswamy lead by 205 votes in Ramanagara.

8:50 am: First round ends, in Shimoga, Eshwarappa trailing. 

8.35 am: At this moment Congress leading in 30 constituencies. This is more than all other parties put together (27).

8.30 am: Surprise: Yeddy's right hand man Udasi trailing. Bommai leading. Yogeshwar overtakes Anita Kumaraswamy in  Channapattana. This is looking like a see-saw battle. We will wait to report on the fluctuating fortunes of individual leaders till clear trends emerge.

8.15 am: Trends indicate all key leaders are ahead, except former minister Renukacharya, who is trailing in Honnali. C P Yogeshwar is also trailing in Channapattana. He is contesting from SP. 

8.00 am: Here it goes. The counting of votes begins. 


Hundreds of candidates and thousands of their supporters throng the counting centres. Security forces on full alert.
