Why YSR Party Become 'Hurdle' To Congress & Telugu Desam In AP?

Emboldened by the petering out of the TRS-proposed no-confidence motion fizzling out even before it is moved, the Congress is likely to act fast on getting rid of flab. The party might set the direction for acceptance of resignations and also consider disqualification of those legislators sailing with the YSR Congress.

An interesting twist came forth in the form of Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy’s withdrawal of resignation. He met YS Jaganmohan Reddy in Chanchalguda prison and on his direction, he approached the Speaker and withdrew his resignation. Similarly, all others who tendered their resignations to their memberships of the Assembly had also reportedly informed the Speaker’s office that they would withdraw their resignations.

This move is apparently a clever one politically on the part of YSRC. Of course, with TDP deciding not to favour a no-confidence motion proposed by any party, the Government would continue to survive. But, would this move prove a point that the Government had fallen short of the magic number becomes interesting.

According to calculations, the Government has the numbers in its favour and the question of government falling doesn’t arise immediately. Also, the disqualification has a set procedure of issuing notices, giving an opportunity for the MLAs to explain their stand and they can also bring their advocates to argue their cases before the Speaker. So, it takes a longer time. Meanwhile, even if the no-confidence motion is to be defeated, the YSR Congress can tell the people that who sided with whom and establish its theory of match-fixing.

Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee president Botcha Satyanarayana indicated that the party would take appropriate steps at an appropriate time. But the party would surely take disciplinary action against those indulging in anti-party activities. This is an indication that the party is contemplating acting against those drifted away towards the YSR Congress.

This will set an example for the Telugu Desam Party to tread the same path and get rid of the irritants who joined hands with Jagan. Ironically, for the Congress, if at all it goes ahead with the plan of showing the door to its legislators, the same rule applies to TDP MLA Chinnam Ramakotaiah of Nuzvid who is sailing with the ruling party.

The number of legislator would come down with the acceptance of resignations and disqualification of members. At that point in time, the TDP may well be equipped to move the no-trust motion so that there would not be any confusion of BODMAS principle (brackets-open-division-multiplication-addition-subtraction) to calculate who is supporting whom and who is enjoying a majority and who is qualified to vote and whose vote would go which way.

Even at that point in time, if TRS or YSRC can lure 10 legislators, the Kiran Kumar Reddy regime will need the ‘oxygen mask’ available for any emergency. The temporary relief is a reason for the Congress to bask. This became evident with the glint in the eyes of Botcha. But the move of Jaganmohan Reddy surely piqued the Congress. But, the Congress, with too many brains to mull issues, may spring another surprise.
