Serial Blasts In Hyderabad, 30 Killed, 100 Injured, Red Alert Declared In Andhra Pradesh

Serial blasts, more than 30 people killed and 100 people seriously injured. Terror struck Hyderabad on an otherwise cool evening of February with two to three explosions ripping through the densely populated Dilsukhnagar area. Initial reports suggested that seven people were killed in the explosion. One unconfirmed report suggested that about 30 people were killed in the explosion. The toll is likely to rise.

The Director-General of Police of Andhra Pradesh V Dinesh Reddy said the police suspected terrorist attack as the cause of the explosions. A TV Channel’s report suggested that about five explosions occurred in a series. One bomb is said to have been fixed in a motorcycle.

Another vernacular channel reported that 25 people were killed and 90 others were injured in the ghastly explosion. The channel related the incident to Pakistani terror module, Laskar e Taiyaba (LeT), which vowed to unleash a reign of terror following the hanging of Ajmal Kasab, a terrorist who was caught alive, post 26/11 terror strikes on Mumbai in which hundreds of people were killed in Tajmahal Palace and Trident and Oberoi Hotels and Parsi House.

Two bombs exploded in front of Dilsukhnagar bus stand near Venkatadri Theatre around 7 pm on Thursday killing at least seven persons and injuring three others, according to initial reports. The information suggested that two gas cylinders reportedly went off in the Anand Tiffin Centre following a high-intensity explosion. The place of incident is located between cinema theatres — Venkatadri Theatre and Konark Theatre.


Though Hyderabad has been experiencing sporadic terrorist-related incidents, the major one occurred on August 24, 2007, in which scores of people died. The two explosions at Gokul Chat and Lumbini Park, while another bomb was defused at the foot over bridge at Dilsukhnagar.

The evening hour with milling crowds went berserk with the densely populated area was shocked to find itself being the epicentre of explosion. The police rushed to the scene and it is not known if the explosion was due to bombs or cylinders or whether it is an accident or a sabotage.

The police announced a red alert in the City. More details will follow. Two explosions are said to have been heard at the scene. Even a bomb squad reached the scene. Another explosion is said to have been reported from the foot over bridge. The tolls is likely to increase. Rescue teams and 108 ambulances were pressed into service immediately.

Soon after the explosion, power went off in the area, and eventually, the mobile phone communication also was jammed in the area. The injured were shifted to Yashoda Hospital in Malakpet, Osmania General Hospital and another hospital in Kothapet.


Home Minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy rushed to the scene, while Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy too will be vising the place in a while. The Chief Minister described at a heinous act.

Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde is reviewing the situation from Delhi and the two explosions reported in a gap of five minutes — one at 7.01 pm and the other occurred at 7.06 pm.
