After snapping ties with the ruling Congress, the Majlies-e-Ittehaadul Muslimmen has become a hot property for other parties in the state. While CPM state secretary B V Raghavulu has found fault with the state government for arresting Chandrayangutta MLA and MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi obviously to befriend its leadership last week, Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu too objected to the manner with which MIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi was remanded to judicial custody in an old case.
“The state government is terrorising the opposition leaders by putting them behind bars. No action was taken against Asaduddin Owaisi when he was supporting the Congress,” he said. Naidu’s comments were interesting as he inadvertently acknowledged that even YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was arrested after he parted ways with the Congress in the state.
Naidu further pointed that Raptadu MLA Paritala Sunitha’s son Sriram was implicated in a faction case, former Home Minister Dr Kodela Siva Prasada Rao was arrested in Guntur and the provisions of the P D Act was invoked against two Telugu Desam MLAs in Karimnagar district recently. “We will not be scared of such arm twisting tactics,” he said.
Though Naidu is keen to win over MIM to his side, his remarks showed that he was more bothered about the arrests of his party leaders rather than Asaduddin. However, the MIM leadership, which has already made up its mind to sail with the YSR Congress, has no intentions to join hands with the Telugu Desam.
