New Andhra Pradesh's New Capital Is Named Amaravati

The new capital of Andhra Pradesh will be named after the ancient town of Amaravati.

The decision was taken by the Andhra Pradesh cabinet. The Hindu reported that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu briefed the cabinet about the master plan for the capital, which has prepared by Singapore government agencies.

"The Japanese companies are ready to associate in construction, environment and other requirements of the city," he said. "It will be a deadly combination."

Jaisalmer's Silk Route: An Intimate Desert Acquaintance

Once upon a time, Jaisalmer was a busy pit stop on the Silk Route. Centuries later, the Thar Desert still carries the indelible marks made by merchants and farmers, warriors and musicians.

The vast expanse of the unsympathetic yet romantic Thar Desert embodies a sense of the timeless, the feeling that the past is always present. And with good reason. As part of the Silk Road—a 2,000-year-old trading route that connected China to Turkey and Italy via India and central Asia—the Thar was once witness to a mirage more improbable than water: Colourful caravans travelling across the desert expanse laden with spices, silk, tapestries, precious stones and bronze ornaments, led by wealthy merchants from China, the Middle East and even Egypt, who had bet their lives and fortunes on surviving the desert.

Bibi Ka Maqbara: A 'Teardrop' At The Heart Of 'Deccan'

The Taj Mahal has dominated the Indian tourism landscape to such an extent that it ends up overshadowing other and destinations more often than not. Bibi ka Maqbara is one such monument which gets a rough deal as it is often called the “Taj of Deccan” considering comparable Mughal architecture and considering the fact that this too is a mausoleum. But is it a mere replica?

I was actually visiting the Ellora and Ajanta Caves and Aurangabad is the nearest big city for that purpose. It was already getting late after Ellora trip and I was doubtful about getting any good shots at all.

Nirbhaya Documentary Row: 'Log Kya Kehenge' Attitude As 'India’s Daughter' Might Be Called 'India’s Shame'

India’s Daughter is doing something that Indians fear. It’s washing our dirty laundry in public. India’s Daughter might as well have been called India’s Shame.

Rape has become India’s Number 1 black mark in the world outside, tourist advisories and all. Had Mukesh Singh spoken to an Indian channel, there would have been some tut-tutting and some shock and dismay but we would have gone back to programming as usual. But a BBC documentary makes our worst “log kya kahenge” nightmares come true.

No wonder India is up in arms. Rajnath Singh, the Home Minister has said he has asked authorities to stop broadcast of the documentary scheduled for March 8.

That Part Of Indo-Pak Border Act With 'Beer & Guns' Of Joy

I couldn’t have imagined that the first time I would see someone in Pakistan drinking openly in public it would be in the Bahawalpur desert.

Yet, there it was. The man was young, wearing a red shalwar kameez, with an unmistakable green Murree Brewery beer can. He caught me staring and offered me one, and I graciously accepted, still dumbfounded.

There were whiffs of narcotics too, but the strong wind blew them away intermittently. We were stationed at a particularly sharp corner along with hundreds of spectators on the second day of the 10th Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally, watching massive 4×4’s struggle with the treacherous sand as they came in to the turn.

ISIS: Maldives Becoming A Recruiting Haven For Jihadists

India needs to be worried … very worried. If the doom and gloom scenario projected by leaders of Maldives’ major opposition party - the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is true, then the brutally violent Islamic State (IS) may well be setting up base, right in India’s backyard.

It is the most iconic archipelago in the world: famous for its sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters and, as they write in tourist brochures, as close as you can get to “paradise”.

IMPACT: BJP Rules Out 'TRS MP' Joining 'Modi's Cabinet'

A day after INNLIVE published a report which made political circles agog with speculation that the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), the ruling party in the state,  might join the Modi-led NDA cabinet at the Centre, Union minister of state for labour and employment Bandaru Dattatreya and senior BJP leader has ruled out such a possibility.

The TRS too has rubbished the reports of the changing political equations in the state.

The Union minister, along with his family members, worshipped Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy at Vemulawada in Karimnagar district on the occasion of Maha Sivaratri.

'Goa Tourism Targeting Beach Shacks': Father Fernandes

The social wing of the influential Roman Catholic Church in Goa has accused the state government of corporatising tourism spaces like beach shacks and taxi services while pushing resident entrepreneurs out of business.

Beach shacks, the temporary thatched eateries, are licenced annually by the tourism ministry. They are synonymous with Goa's beaches and enormously popular with the hundreds of thousands of tourists visiting the state every year.

Neglected Historical Treasure In Backyard Of Telangana

The site of pre-historic paintings is first of its kind so far as Nalgonda district is concerned. It is also the only site in Telangana apart from Eddanur of Medak district to have pre-historic paintings in one cave and petroglyphs in another cave at a single site.

In view of the rarity of the site and its heritage value, the Government of Telangana has to take steps to protect and preserve the ‘Cave Shelters of Petroglyphs and Paintings’ immediately, as treasure hunters pose serious threat to the site.

An Enquiry: The Right to Abort in 'Surrogacy Contracts'

This article makes an enquiry into the right to abort in surrogacy contracts as visualised by the bill on Assisted Reproductive Technology drafted by the Indian Council of Medical Research and introduced in Parliament in 2010. It argues that the bill's anti-abortion clause raises important questions of ethics, fundamental rights as well as legal remedies, if any, in the event of a breach of contract.

Surrogacy is a contract for services which are highly personal in nature, and which are intended to bring social and familial contentment to the commissioning parents through childbirth.

OpEd: The 'Fake Mistake' Of 'Ajanta-Ellora' Monuments

Some years ago, the Maharashtra Tourism Department Corporation (MTDC) had a brain wave build replicas of Ajanta and Ellora to reduce crowding at the real heritage structures. Now, Rs 125 crore and two years later, the amateurish thermocol fakes hardly draw visitors and are a huge drain on the exchequer.

The irony is that the MTDC spends Rs 10 crore for the upkeep of these white elephants while the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) spends Rs 1 crore on the original Unesco world heritage sites.

Focus: Bringing 'Hollywood' To The 'Desert Of Abu Dhabi'

A red Porsche sports car speeds down a California street known to be popular for drifting cars. Driven at around 160kmh and with a former professional racer at the wheel, it eventually loses control, crashes into a concrete pole and bursts in flames.

While the scene was caught on film and the passenger in the car was actor Paul Walker, famous as the Hollywood star of the high-adrenalin, billion-dollar Fast and Furious film franchise, this was no film set.

Three Overlooked Serious Reasons: Why India’s Healthcare Indicators Remain Abysmal?

The Union government wants to subsidise healthcare and at the same time cut health spending. Still, money is just part of the problem.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Central government announced in July that it would roll out a National Health Assurance Mission, whose aim would be to provide some free medical services to reduce “out of pocket spending on healthcare by the common man”.

The Story Of Media Baron 'Ramoji Rao & Eenaadu Group'

This is how the undisputed media baron Ramoji Rao of Eenadu Group wrested control of power and politics in Andhra Pradesh. INNLIVE delves into the historic prespective and recounts the growth and empowerment of  Eenaadu Group.

|ONE | - ON A COLD DAY IN DECEMBER 1994, Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, universally known as NTR, woke, of long habit, at 3 am. Once a movie star, the hugely popular NTR had changed the very character of Andhra Pradesh politics over the previous decade.

Prespective: Incredibly Unwell India On Tourism

India must follow up quick delivery of tourist visas with efforts to tackle the emergent threat of superbugs.

India has recently launched an online visa program- me in the hope of doubling the inflow of tourist dollars, which has been well below the country’s potential. Quick delivery of visas is, however, only the first and easiest step. It is much harder to provide the facilities for a safe and enjoyable visit for millions wishing to taste what the country’s tourist promotion has billed as ‘Incredible India.’ It is high time the country redoubled its efforts to tackle the emergent threat of superbugs that has increasingly come to be associated with India.

In recent years, the so-called superbugs — the catch-all for pathogens resistant to known antibiotics — have caused thousands of deaths around the world.

Special Report: 'The Lethal Business Of IVF Clinics In India'

Egg donors in coma and cancer deaths: the hidden truth of infertility treatment.

Four year into their marriage, Geeta (name changed) and her husband had everything that they could hope for, except for a baby. The desperate couple consulted a gynaecologist in New Delhi. Geeta was diagnosed with tubercular infection of the fallopian tube, one of the three organs essential for conceiving.

Special Report: 'The Invisible Baby Makers Of India'

For the women who donate eggs, the lure of easy money often turns into a death trap.

When Yuma Sherpa visited New Life India Fertility Clinic in New Delhi with the intention of donating her eggs, her concern regarding donation was more or less around its returns. After all, the 23-year-old was desperately in need of  Rs 25,000. The procedure that began on 8 January made her unwell. After the final round, she fell unconscious. Soon complications erupted and within a few hours she was declared dead.

Focus: Tricks Of The Trade - Divine Tongues For Work

Translation work offers new career options to madrasa students, many of whom train to become imams or maulanas.

When Mohammad Arif, a 26-year-old master’s candidate in Arabic at Jawaharlal Nehru University, graduated from Madrasa Taleem-ul-Quran in south Delhi a decade ago, his career prospects seemed dim. After years of religious education, and without having studied subjects such as economics or the sciences, he had few lucrative skills.

Behind the victory of a Muslim party in Maharashtra, the gamble of a journalist

Former NDTV correspondent Imtiaz Jaleel ran for elections so that he could make a difference. But why did he chose to represent a Muslim party that many believe is communal?

On September 19, soon after filing a report on a Bharatiya Janata Party election rally, Imtiaz Jaleel, the Pune correspondent of the NDTV news channel, surprised his colleagues by putting in his papers. Two days later, he created a Facebook account, put up a picture of himself dressed Nawab-like in a sherwani, and posted this open letter.

"Dear Brothers, Assalam-alaikum, I am not sure how you are going to react to this development but you will be surprised for sure or rather shocked to know what perhaps is the most toughest decision of my life. Having completed 23 years in journalism ‒ 11 years with Lokmat and near 12 years with NDTV, I have quit this profession, only to take a plunge into active politics. I will be contesting for the Maharashtra state assembly elections on MIM ticket from Aurangabad. (I could visualise your shocked faces!!!)."
