Child Prodigies: Three-Year-Old Archer 'Dolly Cherukuri' Should Remind Of Budhia Singh, The Marathon Boy

There are lessons from the story of the four-year-old who ran 65 km from Bhubaneshwar to Puri in just seven hours.

The recent story of Dolly Cherukuri, who set a new national record in archery nine days before her third birthday, prompts a revisit to the story of Budhia Singh, child marathon runner from Odisha.  Dolly’s father, who is also her trainer, and runs an academy for archery, claimed that preparations to mould Dolly to be a future archer began even before her birth.

Drone Industry: Are Our Regulators Sleeping On Gold Mine

In May 2014, Mumbai inhabitants witnessed what could easily have been a scene lifted straight from a sci-fi novel; a pizza was home-delivered using an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), more popularly known as a drone, from a local pizzeria. This experiment was not amiably met by the local police.

A notice was shot off to the allegedly offending outlet which had not taken permission of either the local police or the Air Traffic Control of the Mumbai International Airport raising questions over the legality of commercial usage of UAVs in India.

#CWC15 Semi-Finals: What Is 'At Stake' For 'Team India'?

The one feeling which dominates India as a nation is cynical pessimism. And why shouldn't it be so? The country has been repeatedly let down by its political leaders, whether it's the anti-minority speeches made by members of the BJP, or the infighting in the Aam Aadmi Party.

But there is one thing that defuses the negativity that permeates us most of the time. This colossal force is called cricket. When Team India won the ICC World Cup in 2011, the streets of Mumbai came to a standstill as the world conquerors celebrated from the top of a bus. This time too we are witnessing a similar feeling, even if only in anticipation.

The first Mauka TVC hit the ball with the middle of the blade, tapping perfectly into the Indian psyche. Key ingredients - the first World Cup match excitement and the fiery, traditional and ever-so-close-to-the-heart India vs. Pakistan rivalry.

How Private Enterprise Is Changing Non-Cricket Sports?

India Inc has entered the country's sporting arena, and is changing the way the nation plays.

There was a time, not too long ago, when it was taken for granted that an aspiring sportsperson in India would have to do any or all of the following:
  • Secure a job in a public sector company, or a large private sector one, for a regular income.
  • Scramble for corporate sponsorship to be able to compete at international or even national tournaments.

SPONSORED: A clear indicator of growth in India is the volume of traffic you see on our roads today. As Indians get more affluent the number of cars they buy and use increases exponentially.

Today, India has one of the highest road traffic density compared to anywhere else in the world. We are all aware of the stress this leads to, driving in bumper to bumper traffic constantly avoiding collisions, sudden braking, honking, nose and general chaos that rules our roads.

#CWC15 Cricket World Cup 2015: It's All Commercial Game

How closely are you watching the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015? INNLIVE gives you a lowdown on all the ads buzzing around the grand event.

Face it. You got interested in the Cricket World Cup 2015 after yesterday’s match. Opening day, England lost to Australia by 111 runs, but you were probably busy getting wedded by the Hindu Mahasabha. You may be excused.

#CWC15 Betting Market Humming With Buzz Of Big Upset

Even though bookies have come out with a list of World Cup 2015 favourites, who are tipped to win the tournament, the betting market is abuzz with talk of one to two major upsets in the quarterfinals and or semi finals.

At the moment, the bookies’ four favourites are Australia followed by South Africa, New Zealand and India.

Australia is at the top of the pecking order with odds on it being quoted at Rs 1.9 per rupee bet. Next come South Africa, also known as ‘chokers,’ with a rate of Rs 4.2 and New Zealand with Rs 4.6. The two are closely followed by India at Rs 4.8. The cardinal rule is: the lower the rate, the higher is the probability of the outcome.

Everyday Is A 'Women's Day' In 'Fashion And Advertising'

The mammoth overdrive that International Women’s Day advertising puts out can make anyone barf with disgust. What really is Women’s Day? Who started it and what purpose does it serve?

Some women get flowers from their male work mates. Some women get together for a girl’s lunch. My postman rang the doorbell on Monday morning to wish me ‘Happy Women’s Day’ for the day before. I am a very polite girl or I would have said “buzz off” in Marathi.

#BloggerDreamTeam Are #CWC Players Fashion Conscious

Lights, Camera, and it is a Six!! You see a guy running across the field – a perfect advertisement opportunity for a shampoo, a shoe company. He takes a full round arm action like a well-oiled machine,  throws a ball like a bullet aim for its target – opportunity for range of products from gear oil manufacturers to tonic drinks.

Today every action of a cricketer on field is depicted as a style icon. What more is needed when there are multiple cameras capturing each and every action of players, live telecasting it to  millions of viewers across the world.

#BloggerDreamTeam: #CWC15 Great Holiday Destinations

Cricket has been associated with speculations and superstitions. Cricket fans would sit in the chair for hours, in the same position, until the match finishes. They would prefer discomfort than watching their side lose to the counterpart.

Most people would prepare dishes and would adorn a similar dress because in a previous encounter that their team won, they had been wearing the same dress and had prepared similar food. Cricket fans would not shy from doing the impossible just to see their side win.

Book Review: A Paean To Chhattisgarh From 'Exiled Lover'

SPONSORED: Dr Ilina Sen’s association with Chhattisgarh and her deep, empathetic understanding of its society and culture have come lyrically alive in "Inside Chhattisgarh: A Political Memoir."

In November 2000, the state of Chhattisgarh was carved out of 16 eastern districts of Madhya Pradesh. At that time noted sociologist Dr Ilina Sen and her husband Dr Binayak Sen, who had chosen to make it their home and share the lives of its people, had no inkling, perhaps, of how this political act would one day so dramatically impact their own lives.

Barely seven years later, Dr Binayak Sen was arrested and charged with sedition. The manner in which he was branded as the “mastermind of the Naxalites” and the case built around him by the state and a compliant local media had a marked impact.

What Is Wrong With KCR Redeeming Telangana Vows?

Should governments spend tax money on non secular and religious activities?

A  public debate is raging across media channels on why and how Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao is spending government money for 'redeeming vows he made to gods and goddesses' after the government released GOs for making gold ornaments to several temple deities including Tirumala and Warangal.

While  the act is condemnable on secular, democratic and moralistic grounds, I don't see anything wrong in KCR's act particularly when such contributions are made annually under the excuse of ' traditions and customs.'

Who Can Replace Rahul Gandhi In Congress Young Turks?

Rahul Gandhi’s decision to go on a sabbatical just ahead of the Budget session has left the Congress in a tizzy and party spokespersons are having a tough time explaining the move. Battered and bruised in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress was hoping to play the ‘role’ of an Opposition, and the controversial Land Acquisition Bill was a perfect issue to start with.

Notably, this Bill had the imprints of Rahul Gandhi when the UPA was in power and wanted to clear it in Parliament.

World Cup 2015: Can 'Team India' Be Fourth Time Lucky To Break The Jinx Against 'South Africa'?

When India take on South Africa at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Co will have a little factoid playing on their minds: they have never beaten South Africa in an ICC World Cup match.

Not even when they went on to win the World Cup, as they had failed to beat the Proteas in a group match at Nagpur (2011).  Adelaide (1992) and Hove (1999) were no different.

That all the three encounters were memorably tight matches, with the South Africans chasing down the runs with only a few balls to spare, would be no consolation.
