Cabinet Reshuffle: What To Make Of PM Modi's Minimum Govt Promise?

By NEWS KING | INNLIVE

Minimum government this certainly is not. Team Modi now comprises of 78 ministers - same as Manmohan Singh's Council of Ministers.

Modi started his prime ministerial stint in 2014 with only 45 ministers, and this was widely flaunted as his commitment to minimum government. At that time, this writer had pointed out that Modi's was a lean government, not a minimum government. But now it is not even a lean government. Seventy-nine is just a smidgeon short of the 81-member cap that the ninety-first amendment of the Constitution sets (15 percent of the strength of the lower house).

Narendra Modi Is Serious About Ending India’s Endless Cycle Of Elections

By NEWSCOP | INNLIVE

India’s most prolific political campaigner is turning out to be the biggest proponent of ending the country’s unending cycle of elections.

Amid his interview blitzkrieg on July 05, Indian prime minister Narendra Modi once again backed the idea of synchronising the country’s state and national election cycles.

In an interview to the Economic Times newspaper, Modi argued that simultaneous elections would better reflect the popular mandate, apart from causing less disruption to the business of governance.

'ISIS Is Demonising Muslims Across India': Hyderabad MP & AIMIM Supremo Asaduddin Owaisi On INNLIVE Exclusive Interview

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

The arrest of five Muslim youth from Old city of Hyderabad in connection with a terror plot has jolted the city and the community in particular - more so, since they are being accused of being part of an Islamic State terror module. Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has now offered to extend legal aid to the five arrested youth. In an exclusive interview to M H Ahssan, Owaisi bristles at the 'attempt' to ''demonise the entire Muslim community''.

Q. The attack in Bangladesh late on Friday shows that Islamic State's terror network is at our doorstep, and that it has most likely made use of local help. Just last week, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Hyderabad busted an alleged terror module. Isn't that reason enough to be really worried?

Life stories of children – from 1950s Hawaii to the orphanages of Romania – could help understand how some do so well despite early adversity.

The landscape of the Hawaiian islands is as idyllic as a postcard: long, sandy beaches, hibiscus flowers, clear waters of tropical fish and coral reefs. When you arrive at the airport the air is warm and ukulele music is piped out at you. Flower garlands are for sale.

Modiji: What Happened To Your Promise Of 'Minimum Government, Maximum Governance'?

By LIKHAVEER | INNLIVE

From increased taxes to controlling what Indians will eat, watch or speak, the government seems to be getting more intrusive.

Small government might seem like a new idea but it’s really the oldest form of government. Throughout history, states were tiny, consisting of little more than an army (often temporary) and a paper-thin bureaucracy extending just a bit beyond a royal court. Then in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, notions of a welfare state started to take root. Pushed in part by the appeal of socialism, the United Kingdom introduced wide-ranging healthcare and Germany old-age pensions.

Opinion: If Salman Khan Is Not On Public Trial – Is It Our Framework Of Judgement?

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

Are we a society that will pardon manslaughter and animal killing but condemn a man for an idiotic error?

Salman Khan is not new to controversy. He looks like a kid with his hand perpetually in a cookie jar of trouble. In fact, his controversies seem more memorable than his movies. There is something endearing about the man – there is an innocence, an adolescence, a ham-handedness. It is as if he is perpetually goofing his lines. One is forced to conclude that he has a bad script-writer or that he has a touch of a bumbler. Even the bumbling image works as he come out as a vulnerable man.

Rape Remark: Why Fans Rallied Around Salman Khan And Why Media Equally Culpable?

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

While the 'rape remark' controversy was raging on TV studios, #PaidMediaCan'tPullSalmanDown was trending high on Twitter for a considerable amount of time. It suggested that while media was seething in sanctimonious anger over Salman Khan's regressive comment, legion of his fans were solidly behind Bhai, registering their protest through social media and vowing to make his upcoming Eid release 'Sultan' the sultan of all Bollywood movies.

Rape As A Flippant Metaphor: Superstar Salman Khan's Comment Reflects Our Attitude

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

It seems that when it comes to Salman Khan, to err is Being Human, to forgive is divine.

Acrtor Salman Khan has shown that he does not need helpless blackbucks and hapless pavement dwellers to land himself in hot hot water. He can do it very efficiently on his own even while doing publicity for his own film.

The latest brouhaha is around a remark about his grueling schedule for the film Sultan. In an interview with INNLIVE, Salman said, “When I used to walk out of the ring, after the shoot, I used to feel like a raped woman. I couldn’t walk straight.”

By MONICA TIWARI | INNLIVE

30 May, 2008, dawned bright and clear in Patna, Bihar. Pans were rattling and children were being coaxed out of beds and into school uniforms. It was early still, but the slum of Chandpur Bela was abuzz. People were gravitating towards one house—Shanti Kutir. A crowd was assembled and if you pushed in farther, you could see a youngish man in his shirtsleeves, who seemed the centre of all the hullaballoo.

How Telangana CM KCR is Wiping Out The Congress And Telugu Desam Party From The State?

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

While the TDP is down to three legislators, the Congress is left with just 12 after a series of defections to the chief minister's Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao seems to be generously assisting the Bharatiya Janata Party in its mission to wipe out the Congress from India.

Since the formation of Telangana in 2014, the Congress’ strength in the 119-member state Assembly has fallen from 21 to 12. Over the last two years, there has been a steady trickle of Parliamentarians and legislators from the Congress' Gandhi Bhavan to Telangana Bhavan, the office of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

Is The Highly Photogenic Obama - Modi Friendship Real?

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

It's a friendship between two powerful men that transcends politics, transcends diplomacy.

It certainly looked like genuine affection when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi pulled President Barack Obama into a bear hug as he stepped off Air Force One last year. An intimacy seemed to envelope the two as they sat in the garden of an old royal palace, smiling and chatting.

In Defense Of English: Blame The Education System, Not The Language

By M H AHSSAN | INNLIVE

The argument that the stress on English-medium education is to blame for problems of inequality and poor levels of understanding is faulty.

The English language has taken a beating from several quarters recently and is being blamed for many of India’s woes. An article in a vernacular online news pirtal said that one reason for the poor quality of Master of Business Administration graduates in India was the use of English to teach complex concepts. Another article on the website, from last year, states that a majority of children are being deprived of a real education because of the country’s obsession with English.

Virat Kohli's team is in miraculous form, pulling off the five straight wins they needed to enter the final. Hyderabad's other batters must fire too.

History Revisited: Was Veer Savarkar Really A Brave Fighter?

By AJAZ ASHRAF | INNLIVE

Savarkar was chargesheeted in the assassination of Gandhi but exonerated, largely because no corroborative evidence of his involvement was furnished.

On May 28, India will commemorate the 133rd birth anniversary of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, who was born on this day in 1883. Bharatiya Janata Party leaders will recall his valour, because of which he has been given the honorific, Veer.

But, really how veer, or brave, was Veer Savarkar?
