Everyday Is A 'Women's Day' In 'Fashion And Advertising'

The mammoth overdrive that International Women’s Day advertising puts out can make anyone barf with disgust. What really is Women’s Day? Who started it and what purpose does it serve?

Some women get flowers from their male work mates. Some women get together for a girl’s lunch. My postman rang the doorbell on Monday morning to wish me ‘Happy Women’s Day’ for the day before. I am a very polite girl or I would have said “buzz off” in Marathi.

#BloggerDreamTeam Are #CWC Players Fashion Conscious

Lights, Camera, and it is a Six!! You see a guy running across the field – a perfect advertisement opportunity for a shampoo, a shoe company. He takes a full round arm action like a well-oiled machine,  throws a ball like a bullet aim for its target – opportunity for range of products from gear oil manufacturers to tonic drinks.

Today every action of a cricketer on field is depicted as a style icon. What more is needed when there are multiple cameras capturing each and every action of players, live telecasting it to  millions of viewers across the world.

A 10 Month 'Girl Child' 'Health Fears' Weighs 'Three Stone'

A ten-month-old baby has weighed in at a whopping 2st 13lbs - making her one of the heaviest children in the world for her age.

Aliya Saleem, of Jharkhand, India, was born at a relatively large 9lbs, then began to rapidly gain weight from the age of four months - and is now as heavy as an average six-year-old girl.

Her parents are worried about her health, after another of their children died aged just one-and-a-half after gaining weight in a similar fashion.

That Part Of Indo-Pak Border Act With 'Beer & Guns' Of Joy

I couldn’t have imagined that the first time I would see someone in Pakistan drinking openly in public it would be in the Bahawalpur desert.

Yet, there it was. The man was young, wearing a red shalwar kameez, with an unmistakable green Murree Brewery beer can. He caught me staring and offered me one, and I graciously accepted, still dumbfounded.

There were whiffs of narcotics too, but the strong wind blew them away intermittently. We were stationed at a particularly sharp corner along with hundreds of spectators on the second day of the 10th Cholistan Desert Jeep Rally, watching massive 4×4’s struggle with the treacherous sand as they came in to the turn.

Focus: Will 'Aam Aadmi Party' Deliver The True 'Swaraj'?

The initial euphoria over its emphatic electoral win over, the focus is now on realities within which the AAP will have to deliver on its promises. INNLIVE explores if the party can realise its vision of ‘swaraj,’ living up to the true ideals of decentralisation.

Ever since the AAP's win in Delhi, there have been a spate of articles on right wing websites, questioning the rationale of issues that form the core of the AAP's political ideologies.

Feature: Is Fashion Illustration Is Becoming A Dying Art?

Fashion illustrator, Gladys Perint Palmer, has spent over three decades chronicling couture. The former fashion journalist, front-row fashion commentator and best-selling author, who says she draws faster than she writes, is currently the executive vice president of Artistic Development at the Academy of Art University in California.

We caught up with Gladys, fondly known as GPP, in Bangalore as she visited several Indian cities as ambassador of the Academy of Art University. In addition to networking in India, she has been sketching.

Funny Satires: How India Never Laughs At Real Taboos?

It's a cliche to pronounce that Indians have no sense of humour, that we are a dour bunch that only recognises slapstick of the kind that Mehmood excelled at, that we can only laugh at community stereotypes - the bumbling Sardarji, the oily Bihari, the Bengali in spectacles and the Madrasi with the atrocious accent and worse table manners - that enjoyed great popularity in the Bombay-to-Goa era when Amitabh Bachchan was a dude, but have quite vanished in this age of political correctness when Aamir Khan has outed himself as the Shamitabh of All Prickly Feelings.

#BloggerDreamTeam #CWC15 Fashion Styles: Hair-Apparent 'Virat Kohli' Emulates 'Cristiano Ronaldo' Impressive Looks

What's in a mane? Lots they say: image, character, confidence and of course fashion and looks. A statement that used to come from skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who has shown the world that he is as passionate about sporting new hairstyles as he is about guns, cars and bikes. Some of them, he looks to have passed on to his lieutenant Virat Kohli.

India's new Test captain was seen at the team's training session on Friday with the sides shaved off and a parted comb over look. Now where have we seen this style before?

Focus: Why 'Narendra D Modi' Suit Was A 'PM Sized Flop'?

How many ways can you say Narendra Damodardas Modi? According to his suit, countless times. Modi’s suit has almost overshadowed the Obama visit.

The couture buzz was supposed to be about Michelle Obama’s dress but Narendra Modi has eclipsed the First Lady and turned the spotlight on himself by showing up in a bandhgala embroidered with his own name. His suit got international coverage but here are four reasons why he might have just let stripes remain stripes.

Narendra Modi Suit Fetches Rs 1.1 Crore For Ganga Shuddhi: Will Charity Wash Away The Vanity?

The Ganga, it is said, wipes away all sins. Certainly Narendra Modi must be hoping so as his bandhgala goes up for auction to raise funds for a cleaner Ganga. Mr Modi has had fashion faux pas before.

Not everyone can carry off that hornbill hat from Arunachal Pradesh with an airy sangfroid. Or that traditional outfit from Leh which made him look like a portly Indian businessman in a golden dressing gown with a grand vizier hat. But those were fashion faux pas.

The 'Crazy, Maniac' Buzz Missing From World Cup 2015?

The previous edition of the World Cup was held in the subcontinent and no other country can match the euphoria for the sport in India.

For all those epitaphs cricket writers tend to pen on the ODI game year after year, the ICC Cricket World Cup happens to be the flagship event of the sport. And as you already know, the 11th edition of the marquee event is upon us.

What MS Dhoni & Co. achieved on the momentous night of April 2, 2011, is well and truly the stuff of legends. But history doesn't guarantee you the future, let alone conquer it.

Education Scenario: Non-Conventional Courses A 'Hit' But Indian Universities Failing To Meet The Demand

Though universities like Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai University and Nagpur University offer some innovative courses, the attractive ones are being offered by the private standalone centres, which often lack recognition but charge hefty fee for the course.

Kshama Gandhi, a class-12 science student of a Mumbai school, is neither interested in pursuing engineering nor a medical career and has been devoting a lot of time these days surfing net to find something more "exciting" and "satisfying" than the traditional career options.

'Indian Fabrics Need To Make On World's Textile Map'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to choose Varanasi as his constituency in the 2014 general elections has rekindled the hope that it will lead to the revival of the city’s fabled craft, the Benaras Brocades.

These patterned gold and silver silks have been woven in the city since ancient times, but unfortunately there has been a sharp decline in the demand for this fabric in recent years.

Changing Trends Of Indian Fashion Tradition & Culture

Styles of India fashion wearing saris and salwar-kameez have changed. The look  has become more of metro. India fashion designers have experimented a lot with India fashion clothes like the neck designs and the cuts of salwar- kameez.

Everyone seems to have had enough of the exotic Indian look. Young designers are cheerfully trading Swarovski-studded tops for chic khadi, discovers Ritusmita Biswas. Fashion does not need to mean “exotic” with a capital E anymore. Designers are taking a break from the usual fare of jewel-studded lehengas and Swarovski-embedded halter tops.

World Cup 2015: The Supermen Of Limited-Overs Cricket

Defending a small total against the mighty West Indies in the 1983 World Cup final, India sensed they could pull off an unlikely victory when the destructive Viv Richards was dismissed. The twice world champions lost their impact man while India sensed that the momentum had shifted towards them.

Ever since One-day Internationals began making rapid strides, it is men like Richards who have helped the format remain a spectacle, winning battles within the war.

Snapdeal Tied With India Post To Boost Varanasi Weavers

Online retail markets are seeing a heady increase in sales. A recent report unveiled by the research and consultancy firm RNCOS pegged the Indian online retail market to grow over four times to touch over Rs 88,000 crore by 2018.

The numbers are certainly doing the talking. But to a weaver in Varanasi, who has been slowly losing out to power looms and new age marketing, e-commerce would have made little sense until now.

Who has not at some time or other eaten too much? Yes, binge-eating is a problem which concerns many of us. The truth is: We feel bad and even guilty about this behavior and for that reason, we are often too ashamed to talk about it. Interestingly enough, the people who binge are not all overweight. Exclusive Psychological Research: Why The 'Male-Female' 'Confidence Gap' Is Growing Nowadays?

Evidence shows that women are less self-assured than men—and that to succeed, confidence matters as much as competence. Here's why, and what to do about it.

For years, we women have kept our heads down and played by the rules. We’ve been certain that with enough hard work, our natural talents would be recognized and rewarded.

We’ve made undeniable progress. In the United States, women now earn more college and graduate degrees than men do. We make up half the workforce, and we are closing the gap in middle management.
