Special Report: Indian Doctors Are Shamelessly Lying On Women To Perform Unwarranted Hysterectomies

By LIKHA VEER | INNLIVE

In Chapla Naik, a tiny village in Karnataka’s Kalaburgi district close to the state border with Telangana, two women died this year.

Arati (name changed) died of pancreatic cancer. Sumana bai (name changed) died of sepsis in her abdomen. What the two women had in common with each other—and with many other women in the village—is that they were aged less than 30, and they had recently undergone hysterectomies.

Rahul Gandhi’s frequent temple visits, and his colleagues’ statements, are fuelling the perception that the Congress is taking a leaf out of the BJP's playbook.

Shortly after he returned from his mysterious sabbatical five months ago, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi proceeded on a trek to the Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand. Since then he has been periodically spotted doing darshan at Hindu temples.

Focus: Why India Should Stop Celebrating Teacher’s Day?

By RAGINI KHANNA | INNLIVE

We have all had great teachers who have shaped our lives. Yet, we can’t pretend that India’s education system is not broken. Most of it has to do with teachers. Indian school students famously don’t ask questions in class. If you ask questions, you are a problem child. When there is rote learning to see you through examinations, why do you need to ask questions?

Meet Hardik Patel, Patidar Poster Boy, An Unplanned Man

By LIKHA VEER | INNLIVE

Nothing prepares you for the disappointment of meeting Hardik Patel, the 22-year-old leader of the Patidar reservation movement.

You go to meet him expecting an anti-reservation crusader, a fiery orator who plans to unite "27 crore" Patidars under his leadership and an ideologue keen to dismantle the existing caste-based quota system and replace it with a new idiom of social justice.

Why Do Our Prime Ministers Remain Mute During Crisis?

“The government is willing to discuss everything“, or so said our Parliamentary Affairs minister before this fiasco of a parliament session started.

Apparently, our government is willing to discuss everything but what needs to be discussed. As an Indian citizen, it completely befuddles me: Why is our social media-savvy prime minister tight-lipped at this crisis? However, a closer look seems to reveal that Modi is not as outspoken as he claimed before the election.

Starting with the Pune techie murder case last June where Hindu Rashtra Sena members beat to death a Muslim software engineer to the demands of Humara Adhikar protests in December, NaMo has maintained a dubious silence on controversial grounds despite all his tweets and selfies.

Special Focus: Why My Domestic Help Would Rather Send Her Kid To A Private School Than Public School?

My domestic help Ruksana has a seven-year-old daughter and a four year-old son. She enrolled them in a private school in the neighbourhood instead of the government primary school. Reason: No proper food, education and facilities.

At the government school she could benefit from the Right to Education (RTE) Act which guarantees eight years of free, quality education to all children aged six to fourteen years. Instead, she shells out nearly Rs 800 a month for fees plus a good chunk on miscellaneous – books, uniforms, school activities, etc.

Wanted: 'Pregnant Decoys' To Save The 'Girl Child' Project

SPECIAL REPORT: Ignoring societal pressures, a few brave women are helping activists nab doctors who assist in sex selection. Will their numbers increase?

Dr Sarawati Munde took less than five minutes to conduct a sonography and determine the sex of the foetus, recalls Prerana Bhilare of their meeting five years ago. When the doctor wrote “16” on the case papers, Bhilare asked her about her child’s sex. “Can’t you read the paper? It is good news. It is a boy,” came the reply.

Cricket’s 'Indian Premier League' Is In Deep Trouble?

By Aamir Khan in Mumbai
Just as one of cricket’s great spectacles, a Lord’s test match between England and Australia, gets underway, the sport in India has faced a day of reckoning. The suspension of two of the eight sides in India’s megabucks Indian Premier League (IPL) following an illegal betting and match-fixing scandal shows that cricket has a corruption problem, and is at something of a loss as to how to deal with it.

The IPL was born in 2008 as the new, bright, exciting face of 21st-century cricket. The great empire game, traditionally played over five days and where around 30% of all matches end in no result, was metamorphosing into a showbiz extravaganza.

By M H Ahssan - Group Editor in Chief
After doing similar mindless blockbuster action comedies for years, Salman Khan has redefined himself in Bajrangi Bhaijaan. INNLIVE spoke to the actor about his latest film that deals with the issue of humanity and religious identity.

SUCCESS STORY: India's Muslim women, often called a minority within a minority for their double handicap of gender and faith, are challenging medieval religious laws that have oppressed them for centuries.

In 2007, two women co-founded the Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA), a group that is leading this fight. When Noorjehan Safia Niaz (43) and Zakia Soman (50) came together to empower Muslim women, they did not imagine the response they would get.

Sports Spotlight: Why Does Cricketer Suresh Raina's Name Crop Up In Every Other Controversy?

By Fahad Shah in Mumbai
Time and again, INNLIVE has brought to the notice of its readers the Justice Mukul Mudgal Committee's findings on the IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal.

It's going to be a tough Monday for the senior national selection committee. The five selectors will meet in the Capital to pick the Indian team for the tour of Zimbabwe. Sandeep Patil & Co. were reportedly looking to rest some of the key players for this low-key comprising three ODIs and two Twenty20 games.

But things have dramatically changed over the last 48 hours after former Indian Premier League chairman Lalit Modi tweeted on Saturday that Chennai Super Kings players Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo were in "close contact" with a real estate tycoon known to be a "big punter and also a bookmaker".

Focus: Why We Adopted The System Of 'Cheating' Today?

By Ragini Khanna in Delhi
A frustrated aspirational society is linked to upsurge in foul exam means. Based on compelling evidence of widespread cheating in the 2015-16 All India Medical Examinations held last month, the Supreme Court recently ordered the Central Board of Secondary Education to conduct a retest. Earlier in March, Indian and foreign media featured prominently parents and relatives scaling school walls and buildings, to pass answer chits to students taking secondary school examinations in Bihar.

Return Of The Scandals: How PM Modi Escape From Here?

By Newscop
Group Managing Editor
ANALYSIS: Reinforcing the standard narrative of the Modi campaign, he used a phrase that has stayed in memory – how BJP would provide ‘probity in public life’, as opposed to the UPA which was marked by scams after scams.

A few days before the final phase of Lok Sabha elections in 2014, the entire BJP top brass had shifted to Varanasi to muster up support for Narendra Modi’s election bid. In a private hotel, Amit Shah could be seen with two mobile phones, micro-managing the constituencies; sympathetic columnists made themselves home in the war-room tracking social media; and BJP senior leader Arun Jaitley agreed to hold an impromptu press conference.

Existential Crisis: 'I Sacrificed Everything - Health, Wealth And Teenage To Study At IITs - But Why It's Not Worthy?'

By Ananya Rathi in Mumbai
In eighth standard, I volunteered to revise one of the Anglo-Indian battles for the class. Using the blackboard, I described the various players and events of the battle in great detail, making up for my faltering English with infectious enthusiasm.

Impressed, my class teacher asked me, “So what have you finally decided? Who do you want to be: a cardiologist, a historian or a scientist?” Those days I used to proudly proclaim that I wished to be a cardiologist, primarily because my doctor parents used to tell me that it was the hottest specialisation in medicine. Excited by my teacher’s praise, I went to my father and told him about it. It brought a proud smile on his face and he said, “Tell her you want to become an IITian.”

Even Monkeys Desperately Trying To Cool Down As India Battles Against Severe Heat, Claims More Than 2000 Lives

When India is struggling with severe heat, monkeys are becoming desparate to cool down by jumping in the lakes, ponds and swimming pools.

More than 2000 people have died in the midst of a blistering heat wave in India which has seen temperatures hit 50 degrees celsius as roads have melted in the capital New Delhi, Telangana capital Hyderabad and Rajasthan capital Jaipur.

Holidays and leaves has been cancelled for all doctors as deaths from heatstroke have soared, and there has also been a spike diarrhea cases due to people swimming in dirty water to cool off.
