Focus: Unravelling The Mystery Of Delicious 'Indian Food'

By Manju Shree in Doha
Indian food, with its mouth-burning spices, cardamom-scented curries, tandoori fried fish, vinegar-infused sorpotel, mind-blowing Hyderabadi biryanis', crisp and divine jalebis', Punjabi channa masala, warm and cushy gulab jamuns', is unlike any other cuisine in the world.

'Curry', 'tikka' and 'tandoori' are words that are often associated with Indian food and while they do reflect a bit of what Indian food is about, they're only a prologue to a very big, fat and interesting cookbook. Indian food has evolved through many generations, invasions, dynasties and experiments and has almost never been categorized under one umbrella.

Special Report: Has The 5-Fold Increase In 'Condom' Supply To Nashik Got A Direct 'Kumbh Mela' Connect?

By Pravin Apte in Pune
Authorities differ; AIDS body sends 5.4 lakh condoms to district against monthly demand of 1.5 lakh; more HIV testing kits too sent. In an interesting development, the Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society (MSACS) has dispatched 5.40 lakh condoms to Nashik.

The number is interesting on two counts: when Nashik's average monthly requirement of condoms is 1.5 lakh, the unusual five-fold increase in dispatch comes just a week before the Kumbh Mela. The Mela is scheduled to begin on July 14.

Local authorities insist that there is no connection between the Kumbh Mela and the unusually high dispatch of condoms.

Jaago India: An Open Letter To A Guy Seeking A 'Virgin Girl'

By Garima Nag
Hello Mr Right,

After the other day's meeting and greeting, I am mighty impressed with your "fusion thinking". Earlier I didn't pay attention to your bio data but after meeting you in person, I was literally drawn towards it. You know why? Because I wanted to understand your mind.

On paper your academic qualifications look impressive. That's actually the reason why my parents shortlisted you in the first place. I am sorry to say after our meeting I have come to the realisation that while you may be an educated man, you are not an aware one. You want a beautiful and professional girl. Nothing wrong with that. Yet going by your 10-minute-long monologue on the subject, your most important consideration is that your future spouse be an untouched virgin.

By Newscop

While delivering a judgement on whether the Madhya Pradesh High Court was right in converting the sentence of a convict charged under Section 376 read with Section 511 ( attempted rape ) to Section 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman), the Supreme Court took the view that by reducing the sentence to little over one years, the High Court was being influenced by a suggestion that the parties had compromised. The sentence was accordingly reduced by the High Court to the sentence undergone, that is about one year.
