As we approach the second anniversary of the horrific gangrape in New Delhi, which became a symbol of our national shame, it is time for reflection. To take stock of the gains of the sporadic movement — public protests, candlelight marches, talk shows on television channels and articles in newspapers — which broke out in the national capital, but soon spread across the entire country.

Advice: Don't Believe Everything The Scientists Claim!
According to scientists, biscuits can make you infertile. They also give you cancer. But don’t worry, sunshine can cure cancer, so ignore previous claims that it might actually cause cancer too.
But whatever you do don’t shave, because that’s been shown to increase the risk of cancer, as will exposure to just about every product in your bathroom (hairspray, talcum powder, hair dye, shampoo) and the contents of your fridge (sausages, bacon, steak). And as for what we now know about tap water! It’s lethal, and a small wonder that any of us are still alive.

Thundering Typhoons: It's The Trimeresurus Malabaricus!
Reptiles pre-date the human race by some 100-odd million years. Yet the latter sometimes has a proprietary feeling towards mother earth. Not only that, man is known to be prejudiced towards this class of cohabitants, with a number of evil myths circulating about them. It is a fact that snakes are a farmer’s best friend as they rid the fields of rats, which damage the crop. And know this – snakes attack only when they are provoked.

With every incident, there is only one stereotypical response from the government, the media and the general public. At times, without committing to look within, foreign hand is also blamed.

Research: Does Coffee With Sugar Have Different Affect?
In a new study, scientists have investigated whether the people respond differently to caffeinated drinks that do or do not have sugar.
It is known that consuming caffeinated or sugary drinks can affect the body's metabolism, causing changes in heart and respiratory rate and weight gain.
The article by Elaine Rush, PhD and coauthors, Auckland University of Technology (Auckland, New Zealand), describes a study in which heart rate and carbon dioxide production (as a measure of respiration) were measured 30 minutes before and after individuals consumed a defined quantity of sugar, caffeine, or sugar and caffeine. Responses to the different treatments varied widely among individuals.
