Exclusive: Iranian women visiting Taj Mahal perform 'Asr Ki Namaz' at Hanuman Mandir

Iranian women visiting Taj Mahal found themselves in a difficult situation when they could not find a clean place to perform 'Asr Ki Namaz' in the evening.

With the help of locals, they performed Namaz in the premises of Hanuman Mandir (Temple). Even the temple priest helped them and said: "Temple belongs to everyone; no one here is denied entry because of religion." Islamic scholars have found nothing wrong in this.

"Namaz can be performed at any pious place," said Islamic Scholar Maulana Nadimul Wajidi.

Iranian women reached Agra in the evening, they were around Taj View Crossing and time for 'Asr Ki Namaz' was fast approaching. They started looking for a suitable place to perform their prayers. Since they spoke only Farsi Language, no one could guide them to the mosque. Soon they found themselves in front of Hanuman Mandir.

Special Report: The Hidden History Of The Owaisis Of AIMIM

It is incredible watching the media celebrate the ostensible rise of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader Asaduddin Owaisi.

Every third day he peers out from newspapers and TV channels, lambasting the secular parties for their failings and declaring his ambition of forging a social alliance between Muslims and Dalits.

This is an amazing turnaround for the man who, only months ago, was dismissed as a hothead prone to making provocative speeches. No doubt, the Maharashtra assembly election results have underscored Owaisi’s significance. His party won two seats, came second on three, and bagged 0.9 percent of the votes polled even though it contested in only 24 assembly constituencies.

Opinion: Salman Khan’s fans and Sant Rampal’s followers – why they aren’t that different?

At first glance, Sant Rampal’s followers clashing with the police and Salman Khan’s sister’s wedding, have little in common.

The two individuals – Salman Khan and Sant Rampal – are like chalk and cheese. One is a popular Bollywood star, the other a self-styled Godman; the only constant is their crazy fan following.

Rampal’s followers had been waging war against the state for almost two weeks.  Salman’s fans on the other hand, simply breathe fire and brimstone on social media every time someone accuses their star. But exactly what is it that drives – normal, sane individuals – to behave so irrationally to defend their chosen heroes?

Chilling Truth: Your fridge, AC are heating up the planet

The rise in incomes in India has nearly doubled the number of domestic refrigerators and air-conditioners in the country since 2000. This, in turn, has meant India has become one of the top producers of greenhouses gases in the world, along with the US and China.

According to energy experts, this rise in emission of greenhouse gases is a result of the lack of awareness about the link between energy efficiency of appliances and pollution.

Analysis: Sants and Sinners - How spirituality, crime are a deadly cocktail in Punjab, Haryana

The Sant Rampal episode has exposed the dark underbelly of the flourishing network of so-called spiritual gurus in Haryana and Punjab.

Goons trained as commandos by former military and police personnel, mind-numbing affluence that is in clear conflict with the message of simplicity they preach, bloody property disputes, thousands of devotes in rural areas, political leaders at their beck and finally, that audacious assertion that they are above the law – a potent mix of religion, con act, muscle and money power continues to dominate the lives of people in the states.

Delhi's 'Shahi Imam' anoints son as his successor

Amid ongoing controversy, Shaban Bukhari, the son of Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari, was on Saturday formally anointed the Naib Imam (deputy Imam) of the 17th century mosque at a ceremony in New Delhi.

"I announce Shaban Bukhari as the Naib Imam of Jama Masjid. I hope that he will live up to the expectations," Syed Ahmed Bukhari said during the ceremony.

The 19-year-old Shaban Bukhari, who is pursuing his bachelor's degree in social work at Amity University, is now in line to become the Shahi Imam of the country's largest mosque.

The Delhi High court on Friday has said the ceremony by Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari to annoint his son as his successor has no legal sanctity.

Tappas: A gift from the gharana vocalists of India

The tappa lyric with its narrative of love, separation and union, is intricately woven with the melodic line that displays dramatic twists and turns on vowels and consonants.

Tappa, one of the Hindustani music forms, is said to have its origins in the songs of the camel-drivers from Punjab.  Ghulam Nabi, a musician in the court of Nawab Asaf-ud-Daulah of Awadh (1775-1797), incorporated elements of these songs and created the tappa form as we now know it.  In fact, many traditional tappas have been composed by Ghulam Nabi in dialects of Punjabi and his pseudonym Shori Miyan appears in the song-text.

Editorial: Modi's India rises on world stage as Obama agrees to be Republic Day guest

It is to state the obvious that Narendra Modi is now emerging as a significant global leader in his own right and that the prestige of India has soared in the six months he has been our Prime Minister. This is the kind of prestige we have not commanded since the time of Jawaharlal Nehru, and if we play our cards right, India will be the world's sixth powerhouse - after the US, China, Germany, Japan and Russia - over the next decade.
