Past On Present: The 'Godmen With Guns' In Ayodhya

With a large section of the sadhus in Ayodhya involved in serious crimes, the holy town is in a terrible mess. February 1992. In the midst of a political storm stirred by the Ram Mandir movement, Mahant Lal Das, the then chief priest of the Ram Janmabhoomi temple inside the Babri Masjid complex in Ayodhya was murdered. The search began for a new mahant, one with a clean reputation and free of any criminal charges or political motives. It was after much difficulty that Satyendra Das was appointed the new mahant.

21 July 2013. In a land dispute, the supporters of two mahants — Bhavnath Das, national president of the Samajwadi Party’s Sant Sabha, and Hari Shankar Das Pehelwan, a BJP supporter — opened fire at each other. One man was killed and a dozen injured.

Criminals Updating Facebook Pages From Jails In Kerala

The shocking revelation that the main accused in the sensational TP Chandrasekharan murder case In Kerala were active on Facebook using smartphones from a jail in Kozhikkode has plunged the Congress-led government into a deep law-and-order embarrassment. 

It has also set new standards for the audacity of criminals, ostensibly strong supporters of the CPM and DYFI, and their luxurious life in jail. TV channels in the state on Monday showed Facebook pages of most of the main accused, allegedly members of a gang of contract killers from northern Kerala, that have been frequently updated from the jail. One of them was updated as recent as yesterday.

EDITORIAL  Even as all eyes are on the cabinet meeting on Tuesday that will consider the Group of Ministers (GoM) report on Telangana, indications are that the proposals may not get approved as it is. In fact with continued pressure from the Seemandhra lobby, highly placed sources aver that the cabinet may decide to look minutely at the proposals and may not clear it in one sitting. 
    
The proposals before the cabinet envisage creation of Telangana with 10 districts of the present Andhra Pradesh state with its capital being Hyderabad.

OPINION  The major hurdle that the Group of Ministers (GoM) on formation of Telangana state faced was with regard to determining the ‘status’ of Hyderabad as common capital for the State of Telangana and the residuary state for 10 years consequent to contemplated bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. The GoM was also tasked to suggest “legal and administrative measures required to ensure that both the State governments can function efficiently” from Hyderabad as the common capital during this 10-year period. 

Now, 'Rayala Telangana' Will Be The 29th State Of India!

DEVELOPING STORY  Now, the Telangana will become 'Rayala Telangana as India's 29th State. The Centre has decided to redraw the boundaries of the proposed Telangana state to include two more districts, in a political decision reportedly cleared by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

The proposed new entity called ”Rayala-Telangana’ will include the Rayalaseema districts of Anantapur and Kurnool, besides the 10 Telangana districts. The two states carved out of Andhra Pradesh will then each have 21 Lok Sabha and 147 assembly constituencies.

The cabinet is likely to give its seal of approval on the proposal on Wednesday before sending it to the President.

Bird Steals Camera In Australia, Records 'Winged' Journey

A brazen bird has snatched a video camera that was recording crocodiles in northwest Australia and took it on a 110-kilometer (70-mile) journey.

Wildlife rangers in Western Australia's remote Kimberley region released fascinating footage on Monday that reveals the sea eagle's caper. The bird's flapping wings can be seen as it grabs the device and soars across the landscape. The eagle later poses for a selfie, poking its face into the camera lens.

Rangers placed the motion-sensor camera along a river in May, hoping to capture images of crocodiles. The camera disappeared soon after.

Ranger Roneil Skeen told Australian Broadcasting Corp. that another ranger recently found the camera near a river about 110 kilometers (70 miles) from where it vanished. The footage inside revealed the real culprit.

Postman Falsely Jailed For 29 Yrs Pocketing 57, Now Freed

He was sacked from his job for allegedly pocketing Rs 57.60 almost 29 years ago. After three decades of long court battle, he has now been exonerated. His life has been shattered and he is not in a position to rebuild it now.

This is the story of a poor postman Umakant Mishra. He was working at Harjinder Nagar Post office in Kanpur in the 1980s. On July 13, 1984 a case of pocketing a money order for Rs 57.60 registered against him and he was suspended from the job.
