Special Story: 'Storm In The Bottle Makes Miserable Life'

By Jasmine Shekhar / INN Live

Alcohol kills. In fact, it is the mother of all killer vices. It kills slowly, silently, in decaying evolution everyday, not only the alcoholic but also those around him.

Born into a poor family of 8, studied up to the third grade in a government school, discontinued studies after attaining puberty at 13, married to a daily wage labourer at 14, first child at 15, second child at 16, third child at 17, husband turns into an alcoholic, gets thrashed regularly by husband, has more stitches in the head and face than bones in her body at 18, widowed at 19 as husband dies of alcoholic cirrhosis, turns into a domestic help at 20, still working from dawn to dusk everyday in multiple houses, earning a meagre income and looking after her children at 21.

This probably is the story in a nutshell of your domestic help or maid. This is the story of all housemaids I have had in three different States.

On My Way Of Travel, In Worship Of 'Military Ganapati'

By Sahil Kumar / Belgaum

This temple is a small place of worship built into one side of Belgaum Fort’s entrance. As one faces the fort’s circular archway, the temple is on the right and a guard room on the left. A constant stream of traffic is regulated by Army guards who also double as traffic policemen signalling vehicles to stop till traffic from the other side pass through.

On the wall of the narrow entrance is a painted sign that says ‘Military Durga Devi Temple’. Along with the Military Ganapati and Military Mahadev temples on the Bangalore-Pune national highway, this makes up a troika of unusual temples in Belgaum.

BJP Sets Deadline For Congress To Pass Telangana Bill

By Kondal Rao / Mahbubnagar

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj today set December as the deadline for Congress to get the bill for creation of Telangana state passed in Parliament.

She threatened that if the Centre fails to do so the BJP would lead "second round" of the struggle for the separate state.

Addressing a rally organised by BJP in Mahbubnagar this evening, Mrs Swaraj also debunked the talk that her party took a 'U-turn' on the Telangana issue as it was seeking to re-establish the ties with Telugu Desam Party.

Opinion: Is Rahul Gandhi A 'Hit And Run Politician?

By Vivek Kaul (Guest Writer)

Rahul Gandhi is angry again. Yesterday, he barged into a press conference being addressed by Congress general secretary Ajay Maken and announced that the ordinance passed by the Union Cabinet to protect convicted legislators from complete disqualification as “complete nonsense”.
The Supreme Court had ruled on July 10, that an MP or an MLA, if convicted by a court in a criminal offence with a jail sentence of two years or more, would be immediately disqualified. On September 24, the Union Cabinet cleared the the Representation of the People (Amendment and Validation) Ordinance, 2013 to negate the Supreme Court ruling.
