By Javed Shaikh / Ahmedabad

Later today—or perhaps tomorrow—a special court in Ahmedabad will receive the Central Bureau of Investigations’ first charge-sheet in its ongoing investigation into the alleged murders of Ishrat Jahan, Javed Sheikh, Zeeshan Johar and Amjad Ali Rana.

For everyone concerned—the families of the deceased; the police officers who will now be charged with their murder; intelligence services facing potentially the greatest scandal since independence; politicians aware that the fallout could shape their fortunes in 2014—the stakes are huge.

Interview: 'Enjoying More Fun At 34 Than 17': Vidya Balan

By Swati Malhotra / Mumbai

Curvy is better than slim; offbeat is better than conventional; 34 is better than 17. An unapologetic Vidya on how she’s done with trying to keep others happy — and is loving it. An exclusive interview with bollywood 'hot' and super actress 'Vidya Balan Kapoor' in a free-wheeling moments with INN, recently in Mumbai. Here are excerpts:

Actresses usually make it big in their twenties. In their thirties, they’re trying to hold on to past success. Your Bollywood career practically takes off in your thirties, in visibility terms — something that has few parallels in mainstream Bollywood. Are you a more confident 34-year old than you were a 24-year old, then, contrary to most contemporaries?

Focus: 'Telangana Party In A Fix As Cong Moving Telangana'

By Ramesh Reddy / Hyderabad

It’s a big dilemma for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) now after the Congress on Monday gave clear signals about a favourable decision on the statehood issue and leaders openly said they are not keen for a merger with the regional party anymore.

The TRS had offered to merge with the Congress if the party agreed to carve out a separate Telangana state, but after Sunday’s massive T-Congress rally and the high command making its mind to decide on Telangana the next day, the equation has changed rapidly in 24 hours, forcing the TRS to just watch how things unfold in the next few days.

'Smart Investing On Girls, Women Despite Safe Projects'

By Bachi Karkaria (Guest Writer)

‘Shrushti’ means ‘world’. It’s the name of an unknown young Indian girl. Is there any other kind? Good question, but the world has come to hear of our little Shrushti thanks to The Girl Tree project. It highlights the dreams of 250 peer-picked girls from seven countries who represent 25 million others like them, all living in poverty. Shrushti’s is to ‘‘start a free karate training centre for girls so that they can always walk without fear’’. It hung on a small scroll from a steel tree, inspired by the Japanese Wishing Tree – just like our own Kalpataru, or indeed the real-life peepuls tied with the threads of desire and desperation.

A Mumbai Club Membership Costs As A Suburban House

By Niloufer Khan / Mumbai

If you want to live in Mumbai, the country’s financial capital, and enjoy the good life, you should be ready to pay a premium, and that too a hefty one–by way of home rentals, electricity bills and even parking charges. And you also need to adjust to the fact that there are scores who would wait patiently for years and months to get a club membership by paying a whopping Rs 1.2 crore, the same price you pay to get a small house in the distant suburbs.

Cash, Jewellery Worth Rs 200 Cr Seized In Mumbai Roads

INN News Desk

A courier consignment of cash, gold and diamond jewellery, worth an estimated Rs.200 crore (about $33 million) was seized in Mumbai by the National Investigation Agency and Income Tax Department, an official said. It is being billed as the biggest operation of its kind. It was brought in four big tempos carrying around 150 bags full of cash and jewellery, stumping the investigators who suspect a terror angle, a top IT official, requesting anonymity said here Tuesday. At least 47 people, including personal couriers, locally known as ‘angadiyas’, were detained and 20 were let off after initial questioning by the two agencies early Tuesday morning.

The operation was carried out following a tip-off received by the NIA at least a week ago. It roped in the IT Department for help as a huge amount of cash was involved. Not ruling out a terror funding angle, at least a dozen of those detained are being questioned separately by the NIA. Counting of the cash and valuation of the jewellery is currently on at the IT headquarters in Mumbai and the true value of the consignment is expected to be known only within another day or so, the official said.

By M H Ahssan / Dehradun

Facing flak over the handling of rescue operations and politicising the Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna has ruled out resigning and said that the state didn’t have adequate information to prevent the tragedy from taking place.

In an exclusive interview, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister brushed aside criticism from other leaders like the BJP’s Sushma Swaraj who had said he should resign over the handling of rescue efforts. “I think other states have faced such calamities and I dont think such a demand was made by any political leader of this country,” Bahuguna said, adding that the BJP leader might not have been aware of the scale of rescue operations carried out.
