Exclusive: 'Udta Punjab' Leaked Online, Suspicion Falls On Censor Board!

Udta Punjab has been leaked online, just days before its scheduled theatrical release on 17 June.

A senior police official at the cyber crime police station at BKC, Bandra confirmed to INNLIVE that the film's director, Abhishek Chaubey, had given a written request to the police to look into the matter three days ago. An FIR was lodged at the police station.

A source close to the filmmakers told INNLIVE, "We learned that the film was leaked on the torrents, and the leaked version includes the one scene that the Bombay HC had asked us to cut (the scene shows Shahid Kapoor urinating in public). There is also a watermark which suggests that this copy was submitted to the CBFC for review."

The source said, "We have been running to and from the cyber crime police station in Bandra Kurla Complex to find the source of the leak and request the police to take action. We are extremely worried that people would watch the film two days before release, which will lead to significant loss of business."

Udta Punjab created a stir after the Central Board of Film Certification refused to certify the film if the makers did not agree to 89 cuts, including those of words like 'MLA' and 'election' and the deletion of the word 'Punjab' from the film's title. Politicians also entered the fray after the CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani stated that producer Anurag Kashyap had taken a bribe from Aam Aadmi Party in order to show the state, which is ruled by rival BJP, in a bad light. Kashyap denied it vociferously and held a press conference in which industry stalwarts turned up to support him.

Kashyap was unavailable for comment.
