Bhatkal is reported to have told his wife that he will be out of prison soon and with help from Damascus. The mention of Damascus, a Syrian city under Islamic State siege, hints at the involvement of the dreaded terror group. However, the authenticity of Bhatkal's claims are questionable at the moment and security agencies don't see too anxious about them either.
While some news report states that security agencies are not very worried about the Islamic State angle, however, they are concerned about how Bhatkal had access to a mobile phone while in jail. A further probe has revealed that the phone was smuggled into the prison a month ago and Bhatkal and some other criminals had access to it.
A vernacular daily reported that the conversation was five-minute long and had authorities thinking of alternate security arrangements for the terror accused. The report also suggests that the authorities are worried over the alleged involvement of Islamic State. The daily has quoted an intercept of Bhatkal's conversation saying,"Damascus se log madad kar rahe hain. Mai jald hi riha ho jaoonga."
Bhatkal is the co-founded the Indian Mujahideen and is alleged to have been involved in the 2010 Pune German Bakery blast in which 17 people had died. He was on the NIA Most Wanted list and security agencies had been looking for him from the past five years before he was arrested in 2013 from the India-Nepal border in Bihar.
