Bihar Jail Rocks To 'Dancers', Prisoners And Cops 'Enjoyed'

Any jail is termed as criminals correctional and rehabilitation center, where strict vigil kept on the inmates attitude, behavioral and social movements.  But, keeping everything on bay, jail authorities organized the dance programme without any permissions. 

Authorities in Bihar's Saran district ordered a probe after the Chhapra divisional jail organised a musical programme for prisoners and invited women dancers to perform inside the correctional facility.

The dance programme was organised and professional dancers regaled the prisoners till late evening.

Taking a serious note of the incident, the state prison department has served a show cause notice on the jail superintendent and also sought detailed information from the district magistrate as well as the central jail superintendent.

IG (prison) Prem Singh Meena has asked who gave permission for the function, which was organised in the premises in violation of the jail manual. Meena has also sought information about the sponsor of the programme and the person who met the expense incurred.

Meena said the superintendent of Motihari central jail, who has jurisdiction over Chhapra divisional jail, has been asked to inquire into the incident. Action will be taken once the report is filed, he added.

The district administration received complaints that the jail administration had organised a 'chaita' or spring function and some women dancers were also participating in it.

Saran DM Deepak Anand constituted a two member team constituting sub-divisional officer Sadar Qayyum Ansari and deputy superintendent of police Raj Kumar Karn to conduct a raid on the premises and over two dozen artists were taken into custody and brought to Town police station.

Police identified the troupe leaders as Mini Toofan of Mukimpur village under Garkha police station and Shivji Yadav of Maiki village.

"There were no women dancers. Instead they were male dancers dressed as women," claimed Ansari.

He added during inquiry, Chapra jail superintendent Satyendra Kumar Singh claimed that he had taken verbal permission from the DM to organise a musical function.
