India's Ace Badminton Champion Saina Nehwal has created history by becoming the first Indian woman to be ranked World No.1 in badminton. She achieved this by reaching the final of the India Open Super Series tournament.
Saina beat her Indonesian opponent, Hana Ramadhini 21-15, 21-12 in the women’s singles quarterfinal and was a win away from the No.1 ranking.
But then, World and All-England Champion, Spain’s Carolin Marin, was upset in her semi-final.
And that, catapulted Saina to World No.1 even before her semifinal.
At this point, it does not matter if Saina loses even her semifinal. She will stay on top of the world!
Prakash Padukone was the first Indian to be ranked No.1 in world badminton, after winning the All England Championship in 1980.
