Theme Weddings All The Rage & Demand In This Season

This wedding season, a large number of families are shelling out extra cash to make the phrase 'dream wedding' a reality. Theme-based weddings- featuring colour-coordinated decorations and sets to achieve a particular look- are becoming the trend among the middle and upper-middle classes. In previous years, this trend was observed only among the affluent sections of society.

Theme weddings owe their popularity, in part, to one of the most-talked about weddings this season- that of actor Salman Khan's sister Arpita Khan. Two themes were featured in the ceremony.
The evening nuptials had a pink and white theme. The wedding was Victoria-themed with palace arches being the highlight. The sangeet-cum-reception had decor in black, red and gold.

On the subject, Zuzer Lucknowala, managing director, Ideas Design Production, an e-commerce portal for wedding and event management, said, "We noticed a remarkable growth for theme weddings and decor styling after the launch of the portal last year. With this change in the wedding and decor industry, we introduced several new themes for the budget segment of society."

"Such themes enable people to opt for their dream wedding decor theme. Big Crystal Theme, Golden Drapes Theme, Purple Haze Theme, etc are generating great response for us. Now we are planning to introduce more themes with better pricing," said Lucknowala.

Another wedding organiser, too, is getting a good response. "We have our presence since last 20 years in the wedding and event industry and we have noticed that there is a change in trends. Till last one to two years, themes were preferred by only those with huge budgets but this has changed. Now more and more upper middle class and middle class people are checking out options for theme decor," said Rachana Minocha, director of Party Cruisers Limited.

Middle-class interest in theme weddings is believed to stem from improved social status combined with more spending power of the families concerned, and their inclination to position themselves a notch higher among their social circle.
