Focus: Hyderabad 'Numaish' Gets A 'Telangana' Flavour

The ongoing All Industrial India Exhibition is going to have a big Telangana flavour this year.Located a few meters from the Gandhi Darshan Hall, The Telangana Stores section is choc-a-bloc with buyers checking out the products sourced from all over Telangana state.

There are just 13 stalls open currently, but over the next couple of days, 30 more stalls are set to open up.On display are saris, sheep-wool blankets called Gongal, cotton vavilala khadi, Bidri artifacts, Nirmal toys, tribal jewellery, jute bags,...all typical of Telangana. “We have invited artisans from districts like Khammam, Nizamabad, Mahboobnagar etc.Patachitra paintings from Cheriyal, silver filigree work from Karimnagar and Dokra artifacts from Adilabad will be put on display. 

It's a long cherished desire of local artisans to set up stalls in Telangana state itself,“ said Vanigalla Vittal Rao. Post Graduate students of Osmania University are are working as volunteers at some stalls.

Saris from Pochampalli, Gadwal, Kothakota, and Narayanapet are a big hit with the women folk, as are the traditional handlooms from places like Kotakonda, Bhongir, Sircilla, Siddipet and Kothavada. “After 60 years of struggle, we are able to sell stuff of Telangana, in Telangana.It's a celebration of Telangana arts and crafts,“ said Sandhya B, a stall owner. Pouches made of raw silk with Aari work, Himrou shawls, carpets from Kothavada etc., are also notable among the wares on display .

Also available are ethnic sweet meats and snacks like sakkinalu, muruku, bakshalu, jowar roti, pickles, garelu, garejelu and madulgulu, etc.
