Flipkart.com apologised the sale of 'Spanish Fliege Liquid' which is termed as 'Date Rape Drug' for females on their ecommerce site and removed immediately after INNLIVE publishing the news (Shocking News: Flipkart.com Is Selling 'Date Rape Drugs'!) in these columns. Flipkart.com assured the further sale with their network of sellers too.
Once the news published, it was viral on social media network and caught attention of flipkart.com authorities, they contacted us and replied in a detailed email.
However, as the news spread like forest fire on social media, the e-commerce company played shrewd as expected, and dropped the product from their kitty. So smart!
When the country is once again debating the sensitive issue of women safety, after the recently reported rape of a 25-year old female financial analyst in Delhi, leading e-commerce companies are busy selling such drugs online in order to mint easy profit, putting women safety in jeopardy.
Some questions which surface are:
Q1. Shouldn’t retailers (online and otherwise) be more prudent in the choice of the products and their description?
Q2. Shouldn’t the government keep a tight noose over such malpractices?
In an email reply to INNLIVE, the company spokesperson said, "Flipkart is a marketplace which helps sellers connect with customers across the country. All our sellers are expected to adhere to certain guidelines if they sell with us. Any violation of these guidelines is taken very seriously. We take strict action against sellers who attract negative feedback about their service or are found to be engaged in selling products that are fake, in violation of copyright or any other applicable laws of the land. In this particular case, we investigated the issue and are taking appropriate legal action against the sellers."
