Which R-Day Celebrations Will The Common Governor of AP And Telangana Attend?

Fresh conflict may arise between the states of Telangana and AP with the Republic Day coming up and AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu planning to hold the celebrations in his own state in either Vizag or Guntur.

Though on the surface, this decision looks harmless, a constitutional crisis could be brewing. According to convention, the governor of a state unfurls the flag and takes the salute soon after the president does so in Delhi.

The states of Telangana and AP however have a common governor, E S L Narasimhan who has to also review the parade and deliver his address making it possible to attend only one of the events.

The most obvious solution to this would be to hold a joint Republic day parade in the common capital of Hyderabad but given the friction between the two chief ministers, this looks doubtful.

According to a repor, AP officials held discussions to finalize the venue and Naidu who celebrated the Independence Day this year in Kurnool, wants the Republic day to be celebrated in AP too.

The governor who is visiting the centre to discuss the various conflicts faced by the two states now has another item on his agenda and must find an amicable solution to avoid tension between the two states.
