After Trilokpuri, North Delhi's Bawana Simmering Under The Shadow Of Communal Tensions

A week after tensions engulfed Delhi's Trilokpuri locality, anti-social elements are once trying to flare communal tensions in North Delhi's Bawana locality.

According to news reports, the area was being 'patrolled' by a group of around 200 motorcycle-born youths under police protection, since early October. The group had been demanding an end to alleged cow slaughter on the occasion of Eid ul-Adha. They had even searched premises belonging to minority community on the pretext of preventing cow slaughter.

However, the campaign lost steam after intervention of activists and massive deployment of security forces by the administration.

Post Trilokpuri episode, tensions are once again simmering in the region.

Objections have been raised against Taziya procession due to take place on Tuesday on the occasion of Muharram.

There are also reports of a 'mahapanchayat of Hindus' that would see participation of people from across 50 nearby villages.

Last year, a similar 'mahapanchayat' in Muzaffarnagar was allegedly held responsible for inciting violence in the region.

In the wake of deteriorating situation, locals have asked the administration to increase the security and deploy para-military forces in the region.
