EXCLUSIVE Delhi government conducted a raid at 84 gas agencies in the city and booked 63 out of all for violation of rules such as cheating on quantity and many others. People in Delhi had been in dilemma regarding their LPG cylinder as they were running out of gas sooner than expected. Now, the raids would provide some reasonable reasons for the things that were happening in the city.
The 63 agencies have been booked on account of the data of last one year. While 61 showed violation in last year, two were found to be repeat offenders.
SS Yadav, commissioner, food and supplies, Delhi government said that the raids will continue to take place to nab the violators and get the system in place. “These raids will continue in the coming days and strict action will be taken against offenders,” he said.
It was revealed in the raid, that the dealers with legal licenses are playing smart and delivering lighter in weight cylinders to the doors of the consumers. An LPG cylinder must weigh 14.2 kg in addition to the weight of the cylinder itself as prescribed but there had been serious violation in the execution of this rule.
It is learnt that the cylinders contained gas less by 200 g to 2.5 kg. West Delhi topped the list of violators with 15 agencies followed by northwest (11), central (10) and east (7) Delhi.
The dealers were fined and charged according to the violations they were making. The fine went up to Rs. 10,000 which exclusively depended on the type of violation. If the repeat offenders are convicted, they will be imprisoned for at least six months.
The dealers have strictly been warned to keep a check on the verified weight and take a note before making a delivery to the consumer.
