DEVELOPING STORY Information regarding exactly what took place inside the Chennai central station is starting to trickle in. According to the latest information, the twin blasts took place aboard the Bangalore-Guwahati express, just as it was pulling into the Chennai central station.
According to railway officials, the blasts took place in the S4-S5 coach of the Bangalore-Guwahati Express. There is still no official confirmation about casualty figures, although it is feared that the number of injured has risen to 15.
The explosion had reportedly taken place on platform number 9 where the Guwahati express had been berthed. Initial reports indicate that the explosion may have been aboard the train. Police teams from across the city have been rushed to the spot trying to ascertain the exact reason behind the explosion.
The railway station has been shut down for the moment. The injured have been rushed to the nearby Rajiv Gandhi hospital for treatment. No concrete reports have been given by the police as yet, but media reports say that they are trying to ascertain whether the explosion was caused by an IED or RDX device.
