Seemandhra Settlers Dilemma: Is This A Way To Get Apart?

By Arhaan Faraaz | INNLIVE

EXCLUSIVE Not many noticed when a website ‘telugusainyam.com’ was launched on March 27 and declared that it’s avowed objective was to ‘protect’ and safeguard the interests and property of 35 lakh Seemandhra people in Hyderabad. But in the last few days, thousands of residents of Madhapur, Gachibowli and Kukatpally areas looked askance to find pamphlets in newspapers in the name of ‘Telugu Sainyam’, exhorting them to join the ‘army’ to protect themselves.

The pamphlet says that with just an SMS or a phone call seeking help, the ‘army’ will dispatch 1,000 volunteers in 30 minutes to a business establishment or an individual in the city facing trouble.
The ‘Telugu Sainyam’ pamphlet (in Telugu) poses several questions to Seemandhra folk residing in Hyderabad like, “Do we have to beg others for protection of our property, businesses, jobs or should we grow as ‘Telugu Sainyam’ capable of protecting ourselves?”

“Should we leave Hyderabad like cowards or should we be ahead of others in re-construction of Hyderabad?” “Should we live amidst threats and fears or should we proudly and courageously take care of our children’s future? Should we escape from the problem or call ‘Telugu Sainyam’ to scare away the problem itself ? Decide. Now you are not alone. You +Telugu Sainyam = 35 lakh very strong army.”

“With just an SMS or a phone call, 1,000 volunteers of Telugu Sainyam will reach your house or office or shop within 30 minutes and solve your problem and boost your confidence. If the problem is bigger, 10,000 volunteers will arrive there within 24 hours. Solving your problems is the responsibility of ‘Telugu Sainyam’,” the pamphlet declares.

To get ‘protection’, readers are urged to register themselves on the website for free and are informed that if a member encourages 10 more persons to register with the ‘Telugu Sainyam’, he or she would become ‘Senani’ (commander). If a person can get 100 to register with the ‘Sainyam’, he or she would become ‘Maha Senani’ (chief commander) and would also be in charge of ‘Telugu Sainyam’ of the particular residential colony.

After reading the pamphlets, 1,272 people have registered with the ‘Sainyam’ and 7,412 people have visited the website. The website claims it is “For safety, security and prosperity of 35 lakh Seemandhra people in Hyderabad.” And, in the second line says, “Also for Telangana settlers in Seemandhra.”

But not everyone is amused. Perturbed over the development, Telangana IT Association (TITA) representatives on Wednesday met Cyberabad police commissioner CV Anand and lodged a complaint about the activities of ‘Telugu Sainyam’ and an abusive article posted on www.mana-andhra.com allegedly trying to create rift between IT employees in Hyderabad by stoking regional feelings.

“The administrators of Telugu Sainyam and the other such websites are deliberately trying to create feelings of fear and hatred among people. We have requested the commissioner to take appropriate legal action against the website owners,” TITA founder and president Sundeep Kumar Makthala told INNLIVE. “We are examining the complaint and allegations made against websites are being verified,” Anand said.

Investigation by INNLIVE has revealed that Telugu Sainyam’s website’s address has been given as Kukatpally. Though it has a president and secretary, their identity has not been revealed.
