IN FOCUS The speculations doing rounds about Aditya Chopra and Rani Mukerji’s relationship status has come to an end. As Aditya and Rani exchanged wedding vows last night on April 21 in Italy, they are officially declared as married couple. Now, the question arises, does the title daughter-in-law of Yash Raj family and wife of one of the most powerful man in B-town make Rani the most influential woman celebrity or actress too?
Trade analyst and film critic Komal Nahta thinks so and says, “Considering, that, Yash Raj Films is the biggest studios and in fact empire today in Hindi film industry which makes Aditya Chopra, the most powerful man. By the virtue of being his wife, she can take the credit of being the most powerful actress today in B-town.”
A source close to YRF reveals, “Rani has always been an official face of YRF and now after getting married to Aditya, she will take the responsibility of representing YRF at every level considering the shy image of Aditya Chopra though, being a head honcho, he will take all the important decisions related to the studio.”
That was about Rani as a better-half of the Chairman of 45 year-old multi-national film company, YRF, Aditya Chopra. But, what about Rani, as an integral part of this empire! Will she be actively involved in the management at certain level that will pretty much decide her position in the market?
Looking at how, Yash Raj Studios which is set on vast 20-acre land located in the suburbs, Andheri in Mumbai has been brought up by late filmmaker Yash Chopra and son Aditya, some trade experts reveal at no involvement of Rani.
In fact, Sr Chopra founded Yash Raj Films in 1973 with his Daag: A Poem of Love and ever since, the company has expanded and grown in leaps and bounds. The Chopra empire is valued at Rs. 3000 crore approximately. Yash Raj family has ventured into different arenas in past so many years Yash Raj Films, Y-Films, YRF Music, YRF Studios, YRF Home Entertainment and YRF Television. And, today, YRF has become the business role model of many new studios who are looking at expanding corporate culture in Hindi film industry.
So, it is little unlikely, that the perfectionist and staunch businessman Aditya will let his wife Rani Mukerji to interfere in the business although, on the face value, she is the boss, is what trade expert and film critic Vinod Mirani thinks.
“Rani Mukerji is an actress who got married to a producer and director Aditya Chopra who owns a big empire. As far as I think, Aditya will most probably not let Rani to get involved in the decisions of hard-core business. She may have to begin at a fresher level and eventually, take up an important position in the office,” elaborates Mirani.
After all said and done, it will be interesting to wait and watch how far Rani will get actively involved in the projects besides being a brand ambassador.
