HUMAN INTEREST In a remote village in Jammu & Kashmir, named Jilpawa where a team of a few men is formed first and then the moment this team sees a girl, the men grab her and take her with them. During this, the girl keeps on shouting and crying because she is not aware about which man touched her first. This is because whoever touches the girl first becomes her husband.
The group of men then gets the girl home where she is well-served. The food given to her is of her choice. The other women in the family try and convince her to accept the fate and get married to the man who picked her up. If the girl does not agree, she does not eat and runs away when she gets an opportunity.
In such a situation, a person is sent to her house to bring the girls back. That person even asks for forgiveness about the act and is ready to even pay the price for it in cash. To settle the case, the girl’s parents are invited to the man’s house and marriage is discussed.
If everything is sorted, the girl is then sent to the man’s house. However, there is no marriage at this stage. There is a test the girl needs to pass. She has to live with the man in his house for a certain period and get pregnant. It is only when she delivers a baby; she is considered suitable for marriage.
Finally, there is celebration and the families of both the houses get the couple married.
