As many as 17 films are scheduled to be released in the months of April and May. But with the elections and the Indian Premier League also reigning through the months, the question is whether it will eat into the business pie of these films.
While most filmmakers are not worried about national news disturbing footfalls at cinema theatres, some, however, choose to reschedule their releases, like producer Sajid Nadiadwala. His film 'Heropanti', which is the debut vehicle of Tiger Shroff, was scheduled to hit the screens on May 16. The producer has now pushed the film's release as he didn't want 'Heropanti' to be lost in the noise of the counting day.
Nadiadwala confirmed to INLIVE saying, "We had initially planned to release the film on May 16, but since it is counting day, we have decided to push the film ahead to May 23."
Himesh Reshamiya, who has produced and acted in 'The Xpose', too decided to dodge the counting day. But it remains to be seen whether this move will really help boost ticket sales.
"Nobody would want to come during elections. Small films don't have a choice. In fact the small films make merry when a big film is re-scheduled," said trade analyst Komal Nahta.
This is perhaps why makers of big-banner films like '2 States,' 'Main Tera Hero', 'Dawaat-E-Ishq' and Rajinikanth's 'Kochadaiiyaan' among others have chosen release dates during the polling period.
On the other hand there are films like Amitabh Bachchan's 'Bhootnath Returns', Kangana Ranaut's 'Revolver Rani,' Subhash Ghai's 'Kaanchi' and Feroz Abbas Khan's 'Dekh Tamasha Dekh'. These films are hoping to ride the election wave with their socio-political themes.
