HUMAN INTEREST Do you feel uncomfortable in the company of the dead? Well, what about having your meal in their company?
In a country like India, where life and death are linked so naturally, and reincarnation is such an important part of religion, what better place to build a restaurant than in the middle of an old cemetery?
The New Lucky Restaurant in Ahmedabad serves their famous milky tea and buttery rolls with all the graves scattered between the tables. This restaurant is built right on top of a cemetery but does not seem to bother the customers. In fact, the customers and the owner of the restaurant were quoted saying that the graveyard is a good luck and that the business is flourishing with the blessings of the deceased.
Back in the 1950s, a man named KH Mohammed opened a tea stall outside the cemetery, and Krsihan Kutti Nair helped him run the place eventually becoming his partner. Business was good and the place started expanding until its walls started encircling some of the graves.
