'Police Lathicharge On Helpless Mothers With Toddlers'

By Srikant Gupta | Indore

SHOCKING These are disturbing images especially in a state that boasts of running welfare schemes for the poor and downtrodden. Shivraj Singh Chouhan has regained power in the state in a big way especially on the wave of his pro-poor image. But, images of police beating women who had come to apply for BPL card are shocking and deplorable.

The fact that toddlers were in the crowd did not deter police and resultant stampede posed great danger to toddlers’ lives. Many women were injured but police claims that they resorted to only light lathicharge. "One woman fell unconscious, forcing us to act just to save her from the crowd," said Rakesh Gupta, IG police.
Municipal Corporation in Indore accepts fresh BPL care application every Tuesday. For the last three weeks, people have been coming in large numbers, but the arrangements are scare causing immense problem to the people. They have to stand in queues for many hours. This resulted in chaos and instead of putting the arrangements in place; police resorted to lathi-charge. One woman police officer brutally beat up more than 30 ladies.

Policemen slapped men who had been waiting patiently for their turn. Victims demand action against the police officers and corporation employees.
