For the last 107 years, Fuljhar- a village in Korba district of Chhattisgarh has never witnessed any fights or disputes that has required police intervention. Any feud or fight since 1907 has been sorted at the village chaupal.
Hence, villagers have not looked at the police station when they wanted to seek justice, they have straight away headed to the chaupal where they have got solutions to every problem.
For laying such ideals, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh has awarded the villagers with an award for being the one-and-only crime-free village in the state.
"I do not remember any issue big enough to be taken to the police," said 75-year-old Patel Ramlal who has been Fuljhar's village head since he was a teenager.
"There are small issues but we sort it out at the chaupal. Every villager is like a policeman here and every man consider it his responsibility to take care of the women in this area," he added.
"Fuljhgar is an ideal village. Other villages should also learn from Fuljhar villagers how to stay in peace and harmony. If every village adopts their way of living there will no crime in the state," said SP of Korba, Ratanlal Dangi.
