EXCLUSIVE COVERAGE Sona Korsa from Bijapur wanted to serve the country since childhood, by joining the Military force. At the age of 14, he joined the Naxalists, thinking it was a military camp. At that age, he was not aware about who naxals are. As he grew up, he met a woman in the camp and fell in love with her. He asked the senior leaders of the group for permission of marriage. They allowed him to get married but got him sterilized before marriage so that he could never become a father.
This is the story of Sona Korsa and Budi Korsa and another young couple who have recently surrendered to the Chhattisgarh police. They have revealed many secrets of the naxal camp. It is notable that earlier in November, the women who surrendered stated that fellow commanders used to force them.
Nearly 6 years ago, Sona Korsa was the area committee member of the naxal group. He met a woman naxalist Budi Korsa and fell in love with her. Both of them asked their leaders for marriage. The prominent naxal leaders got Sona’s vasectomy done before his marriage. He was not told about what it actually meant and why was it done. From past 5 years, they wanted to have a baby and thus, escaped from the village and surrendered. Now they want to adopt a child and fulfill their desire of having a baby.
Upset because of not having a baby, Pandulika Lekam and Vimla Lekam claims that out of 1700 naxalists in the forest, nearly 450 have undergone sterilization. Most of the youth willing to get married are treated like this.
The responsibility of security of prominent naxal leaders and commanders is on the shoulders of more than 250 females. They are mainly in the age group of 15 to 20 years. The girls are sexually exploited and if they protest, they are warned that they will be suspended and thrown out of the forest. Earlier, girls used to get pregnant but now their tubectomy is done. Most of them do not understand the meaning of sterilization. During the sterilization, they are told that it is only for check up and by a small operation, the tubectomy is performed.
Vimla Lekar told that she was only 15 years old when naxals warned her parents and took her away. She lived in the forest for nearly 9 years and was working as a nurse during that time period. He was trained in the medicine. She used to walk behind the naxals along with medicine and other first aid requirements who used to fight.
Sona Korsa was the area committee in-charge of the Gangaloor area. He played an important part in the Ranibodli naxal attack.
The husband of Vimla, Pandulika aka Jagat Lekam has also surrendered. He was a wireless expert and studied upto 11th standard. The naxalists killed his parents when he was studying and then took Jagat along them. He married Vimla and also protested against vasectomy but he was warned and silenced.
