The first time Dhoom hit the screens, Abhishek Bachchan as the super cop ACP Jai Dixit was very much the hero. In Dhoom 2, he had to fight for the hero’s billing with Hrithik Roshan who played the cool bad guy, Aryan. Now the publicity has started for the third instalment of the franchise and it looks like Bachchan has become something of an also-ran in this all-star ensemble.
While Katrina Kaif and Aamir Khan have been seen promoting the film, Bachchan hasn’t been as visible. Recently, when there was a Dhoom:3 song launch, Kaif and Khan were present to woo the gathering, there was no sign of Bachchan.
According to the gossip mills, the actor wasn’t even informed of the event and actually came to know about the song launch from social media sites.
A source close to Bachchan saying the actor was shocked that no one informed him about the event. “At this week’s event, everyone wondered why he wasn’t present when he was in the city.” said the source. “If the heroes were not needed for the showing of Katrina’s song, why was Aamir present? Though Aamir is the villain, Abhishek is the face of Dhoom. But nobody told him about the event.”
Apparently, Khan’s role in Dhoom:3 is of critical importance but in terms of screen time, it’s less than Bachchan’s. Perhaps the fact that he had more time on screen made Bachchan feel more comfortable about being the hero of the film.
However, the Dhoom:3 trailers have been entirely focused upon Khan’s character and his story. As far as the publicity for the film is concerned, Bachchan seems to have been cast in the supporting actor’s role.
