Sachin's 200th Test Costs 2000 Crore In Betting Market?

By Vikas Rathod / Mumbai

It’s not often that crores of Rupees ride on one man’s performance — that too, in his final cricket match. Apart from the expectations of a good performance, Sachin Tendulkar, who plays his 200th and final Test at the Wankhede from 10-14 November will also shoulder the burden of winning good returns for punters all over India and even abroad when he walks out to bat in Mumbai.

While his form his waning and he managed to score just 10 runs in the first innings against the West Indies at the Eden Gardens, odds on him scoring a century are still pretty low. Ladbrokes for example, has the punt at 7/2 (3.5 returns for every unit placed) on him getting a ton.
A report in media mentioned the odds for the Test in Mumbai — as of Thursday night, odds on Tendulkar scoring a century in either innings was 90 paise on every rupee. There are other categories too — like Tendulkar being adjudged as Man-of-the-Match (4/1 on Ladbrokes), going for a duck (10/1 on Ladbrokes) and getting out LBW (5/2 on Ladbrokes).

The report mentions that the amount of betting money spent will be Rs 2,000 crore. It also says that joint commissioner of police (crime) Himanshu Roy has instructed his officers to keep a close watch on betting activities. The betting odds on Betfred are slightly better. For example, if Sachin takes a wicket in the match you will win six times your money (6/1) and if he scores a double ton, returns are 14 times.
