Concern: Enemy Piracy Pushes 'Agent Jadoo' To Backfoot

By Nitya Arum | Trivandrum

Despite efforts by the Anti-Piracy Cell and various agencies, pirated movies are staging a comeback in Kerala. Agent Jadoo, the much coveted anti-piracy software, is also fighting a losing battle against sharing of pirated media content.

The pirated versions of many movies, including the recently released Sringaravelan which is given protection cover by the software, are available online in torrent format.
Police has failed to make any headway in the case filed by the Anti-Piracy Cell of the Kerala Police against 1,010 persons for illegally uploading or downloading the Malayalam movie Bachelor Party an year ago, based on Agent Jadoo’s input.

“The film’s producer filed the complaint based on a list of uploaders identified by Agent Jadoo. We had filed an FIR based on the list which consisted of the IP addresses and physical locations of the computers from which the movie was uploaded,” Anti-Piracy Cell Dy SP S Rafeeq said. “Further investigation showed the users cannot be tracked using the given data alone,” Rafeeq added.

“Many users who had seen or uploaded the movie did not have any commercial purposes. Besides, the data given by Agent Jadoo cannot be considered authentic evidence and it was impossible to find the first uploader with it. So we cannot proceed any further,” he explained.

“We can contain piracy up to 90 per cent,” said Praksh Bare, the founder of Jadoo Tech Private Solutions, a Kochi-based private firm which developed Agent Jadoo.
