45 Charred To Death As Bus Catches Fire Near Hyderabad

Over forty five people are feared to be dead after a volvo bus caught fire en route to Bangalore from Hyderabad. The incident took place at Mahabubnagar district in Andhra Pradesh. 

Witnesses say the bus was over speed and trying to overtake another vehicle when mishap occurred. The ill fated belonged to Jabbar travels and registered on the name of Diwakar Roadways.

Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has expressed shock and grief over the incident and ordered for through investigation.
The District collector and SP visited the spot and briefed the CM about the incident. CM has directed the officials to present a detailed report.

 The injured persons include Shikhar and Rajesh of Hyderabad, Jai Singh of Uttar Pradesh, Mazhar Pasha and Jogesh of Bangalore.

There are reports that angry relatives of the deceased expressed their ire at Jabbar travels office at Lakdi ka pul and protested violently.

Leaders from various political parties visited the spot and expressed grief and pain over the incident.
Over forty passengers burnt alive when a bus caught fire in Mahabubnagar this morning. A private bus belonging to Jabbar travels coming to Hyderabad from Bangalore caught fire after hitting a culvert near Palem in Mahabubnagar district around 5.20 a.m.

Seven passengers, including the driver and a cleaner, managed to escape. They were shifted to a hospital.

The Volvo, was carrying 49 passengers. The passengers were asleep when the bus hit the culvert and its diesel tank burst. People from nearby village said the bus was reduced to ashes within few minutes. The victims were charred beyond recognition.

Mahabubnagar District Collector M.Girija Shankar said five passengers were undergoing treatment at a hospital at Vanaparti.

He along with Superintendent of Police Nagendra Kumar visited the scene. They said a list of only 29 passengers was received from the private bus travels. Other passengers boarded the bus enroute.

The bus left Bangalore at 10 p.m. Tuesday and was scheduled to reach Hyderabad at 6.30 a.m.


There are some causalities feared as the entire bus has been gutted,” a senior police officer told INN Live. They are ascertaining the exact number of casualties, he added. Kothakota police were further investigating the case and senior police officers have rushed to the spot. 

An eyewitness says that the bus had rammed into an oil tanker on the Bangalore-Hyderabad national highway and caught fire. However another added that the fire broke out after the vehicle’s fuel tank exploded. While most of the passengers are feared dead, a few had managed to break the glass windows and escape. 

All injured have been taken to the hospital. The incident occurred around 5:10 AM while most of the 49 passengers had been asleep. The driver along with cleaner and five other passengers managed to escape, police said quoting eyewitnesses.
