Sixteen long months in the Chanchalguda central jail, or 484 days to be precise. A conditional bail on Monday is said to have brought a mere smile on Kadapa MP Jaganmohan Reddy’s face after he was informed by jail authorities. And this despite having pleaded for a bail on seven occasions. Jagan, who was granted conditional bail in his alleged disproportionate assets case by a special CBI court reportedly appeared in no mood to celebrate.
Tuesday afternoon after the counsel submits the court order to the jail authorities, he will be released. Chanchalguda prison superintendent B Saidaiah told INN that they would release Jagan from jail after they receive the court orders. All the procedural formalities for Jagan’s release, he said, would be concluded soon after the counsel submitted the order copies.
Meanwhile, the police started thorough checks and frisking operations on the stretches leading to the Chanchalguda central prison minutes after the court granted bail to Jagan. Deputy commissioner of police (East Zone) Shahnawaz Qasim told INN that they conducted checks and frisking operations near the Chanchalguda prison as a precautionary measure. Police have set up a post on the stretch near the prison and conducted checks.
"We will deploy security at the prison following the release of Jaganmohan Reddy from jail on Tuesday. There are chances of a big crowd gathering near the jail tomorrow. As a precautionary measure, police will take some measures to prevent untoward incidents,’’ the DCP said.
Minutes after the news of grant of bail to Jagan spread, some activists of YSRCP went to the prison and celebrated the occasion distributing sweets and bursting crackers. However, police dispersed the mob who gathered at the main gate . A few local leaders also went to the jail thinking that Jagan would be released on Monday evening itself.
Jagan was an undertrial prisoner for 484 days in the alleged assets case registered by the CBI, which filed as many as ten charge sheets naming Jagan. as the key accused.
